Talk About Delusional

I found this nice little ditty while researching the Denali. Brand loyalty obviously can cross over into delusion. :-)

"Contrary to the glowing praise for my truck, my business partner bought a Denali CC, 4X4. He got a 'raging bargin, employee price' of 37K (is that really a good price?) and I think the thing is not all that cool. From the comparisons I read, it has all the power of the Titan, maybe even a bit more. The leather smells a little higher quality (is smell an indicator of quality?) but otherwise I don't like it. The cab is cramped, the bed is bare metal with no hooks. The tailgate is more difficult to open than a 20 year old truck and 'clunks' down like a $10K used truck. The exterior styling is BORING. The stereo has no subwoofer and is pretty much a POS as far as I am concerned. The running boards are skinny and small. You can't even tell the thing is a 4X4 because it sits so low to the ground. I just don't see why this truck would even be in the same league as the Titan let alone for 6K more than I paid for my LE. I didn't actually drive it but have driven a friends Tahoe SUV of the same year so I have a pretty good idea. Of course the Titan would still be my first choice but I think I would take just about any other manufacturer over this truck. Anyone have any input?"

I wonder what else he smells to determine the quality of...

The titan looks ok and engine seems to be good but the interior is terrible imo, ugliest steering wheel I have ever seen.

No matter what trim level, how much they cost, they are truly the ugliest truck I've ever seen. I have seen a few lifted, and it makes a world of difference to my taste. They look alot better lifted from the outside. The inside is cheap and UGLY. :D

Again.. My opinion... but they don't hold a candle next to a GM truck for style or comfort.

The Titan isn't exactly a pretty truck in my eyes. It may ride higher than a GMT900 and they can be had with what seems to be a pretty nice Rockford-Fosgate (sp?) stereo but that's about where it ends to me. Lots of the Titan has what I call "huge for the sake of being huge" deal in the interior, like the Tundra. Giant control knobs and whatnot. And I don't know if it's changed but I hated the amber instrument lighting Nissan used on that truck as well as other Nissans I've driven. Most trucks still have bare metal beds and I'm sure the Nissan spray-in doesn't hold a candle to Line-X, because from my experience nothing does. And I know styling is subjective, but the current Sierra is hands down the best looking half-ton out there right now. Especially in Denali trim. :D

What a titan drive down the road. Keep an eye on the bed. They shake horribly. Looks as if they are going to fall off

Also a Tahoe and Denali arent really the same. Different motors, interior etc.

I have a Sierra SLT (not Denali, but one step away) a friend bought a Titan. His is the upper level Pro 4X, leather etc.

We took a trip in it, my impressions:

*The seats have no bolstering, very flat and not nearly as comfortable as mine (and I actually liked my GMT 800 seats better).

*The radio display is black letter on orange background, really??? reminds me of a friend's old Nissan Sentra, a 82 model...

*Their beds are composite floored, appear to be very durable, but I have no issue with a metal bed with a spray in liner

*The Titan is a quick truck with a 5.7L engine, but it gets horrible fuel economy

*The Denali's bed does have hooks, he just didn't look. If he is referring to Nissan's version of the Cargo Management System, it's a option on either truck

*The Denali does have a subwoofer, although it is weak, I'm not sure if the Titan has a better system, we never turned my friend's up.

*Nissan Titan does have a standard tailgate down assist, it's pretty nice.

*The GMC SLT interior is WAY more luxurious than the Titan top line, this my friend and I both agree.

*The Nissan does have an electronic locker available, it only works in 4LO though

*The Nissan does have a "simulated front limited slip", it uses the abs to control wheel slip

*I don't care for step bars one way or the other

bottom line, I like my truck more.

I wouldn't own either one. I don't really like the Titans and I think the Denalis are over priced. Give me a GMC or Chevy and I'll take the extra 10k and use it for something useful.

You do know that the Denali IS a GMC right?......

    • Well, I received a message from the dealer...
    • The no sound problem is the audio amplifier. The audio amp has a heatsoak issue in some circuitry which causes it to miss the wakeup handhake. If it doesn't respond within a certain time parameter, then you get no sound. I brought it in and had the software update, but after further testing the tech made the call for a new audio amplifer. The software update I belive gives more time for the amp to respond, but if the amp is defective then you can still get no audio at times. After the update it went 12 days before no sound. After doing some research, apparently the fix is a new (updated) audio amplifer, the circuitry internally has been improved to better deal with heat. I had to wait 2 1/2 weeks because at the time, it was on backorder with no eta. Well the amp came in earlier this week. I had the amp and programming work done today. After picking it up I stopped at a few places, and whenever I started my truck, the audio was on instantly, so whatever they did it appears to work because it's never had sound that quickly......Hope this helps
    • Make sure the latch mechanism is properly greased. Look at the catch for fresh marks/scratches. And see if it has moved a little, too.
    • I have the 18" black mutilspoke wheels that came with my truck. I like them as they are very subdued and look good with the 295/70's    I am sure that the next set of wheels I get will be some after market all black wheels. Or maybe some AT4X wheels.
    • Interesting question which you partly answered in the word 'potentially'. I think that is going to be a 'point of reference' inquiry. What are the touchstones?    This will sound petty but it is the main source of end fighting in threads on this topic. Define a motors "Life". Think about the various arguments that have been entertained on these pages in that very argument.    I can only speak from my viewpoint. Engine "Life" in my world is defined by power cylinder integrity. For the majority of engines it is the bore/ring interface that quits first. Loss of seal. Oil consumption and loss of power. Most Pro motor builders would agree and there is a good deal of information on using "Leak Down" as a primary indicator of bore integrity. At home a compression test is more the thing. If we can agree on that then I think CC Jensen has done its homework and I'd find it valid.    Now by my own definition, Dizzy, wife's Ecotec 2.4 I-4 has been dead since about 80K miles. And yet we have logged over 200K miles more on it. "Life" and "Usefulness" are therefore independent.      I know a mature fella right now who has just hit 300K on a Mitsubishi 3A92 NA MPFI motor and has done compression test every 100K. It was 205 psi after break in and is now about 195 and still even. He uses shelf oil but good filters and adheres to a 3K mile OCI. He even do UOA's on each of them for the first 50K.      I also know a fleet mechanic with that same motor that gets 300 to 500 K out of them but the are oil using, wristpin sloppy, skirt slapping motors. He ran one with a piston pin so loose the piston was bouncing off the cylinder head for about 20K miles before he called TOD. Both of them claim success.
