Engine Compartment Light

I opened the hood when it was dark and found I have no light in the engine compartment. There is a cable coming from the firewall attaching to the hood but it looks like a ground wire. Where is my engine compartment light and what is this wire connected to the hood for?

You dont have a light... None of the newer trucks do..

The wire going to the hood is probably for the remote start so if the hood is open the remote start will not start the engine.

The wire from firewall to hood is a ground wire.. And as you have figured out, there is no light and there hasn't been lights under the hood for several years. You can add one though

GM stopped putting in the light in 02. one reason was to save $2.00 per unit, but the main reason was Gov. mandate on the removal of the mercury in the switch. a couple LED's from the parts store, some wire, and a toggle switch, and your done..
