Need Some Awnsers

So i have a 2004 silverado 2500 6litre. I have a couple issues with the truck thats been ticking me off. Firstly my seat belt. I cant stand wearing that seat belt. Every time the belt moves a high pitch squeak comes from it. Anyone got any idea on how to make that stop? I tried spraying penetrating oil into it and it didnt do a dam thing.

 

Lastly I got some engine noise. I got loud lifters. Everything is mechanically sound but when i start my truck the lifters are just yelln at me and when it warms up fully you hardly even hear it. But you can be at a drive thru and and every time the gas pedal is stepped on you can hear the lifters chatter abit. I tried some lifter cleaner from kleen flo but that didnt do much. Would a simple valve set help this? My last truck was a 98 so i could actually work on it but this truck everything is so computerized.

How many miles on the truck? I had an 06 2500 with the 6 litre...never a sound from the engine.

 

What weight/grade oil are you running....I used Mobil 1 5w30 in the Silverado and currently in my Escalade which also has a 6 litre...also no problems and it have 102,000 miles on it.

 

If the seat belt in built into the seat, you will probably have to remove the seat from the truck and pull off the seat cover to get to the mechanicals of the belt....I had to do the same on my Silverado...not fun but I found a broken bracket whe I pulled it apart. Good Luck!

ive thought about cutting my muffler off and having just cats and dualed out so i wouldnt hear it anymore haha. i just rolled over to 280,000kms the other day on it. my Last truck i had that up to 360,000kms before i swapped the engine and that thing had no engine noise. As for oil i use castrol 10w30 now. ive always used castrol 5w30 and thought id try a thicker oil to help it.

 

And for the seat belt problem, pulling my seat off doesnt sound fun at all haha

What oil filter are you using? Maybe swap it out with a new different brand like a Purolator or Wix and see if that makes a difference.

Don't spray anything on you seat belt. Just replace it.

I have heard piston slap before and its not that.

 

I will check out royal purple and a different oil filter for the next oil change for sure

no fram..i've been running ac delco with mobil oil since day one and my motor dosen't make noise unless its cold out

 

i see alot of trucks come and go and most 6.0s i've seen chatter a bit under load...i'm not sure if its the nature of the beast or neglect seeing as i don't have one

With every other truck I've had, I've always used fram filters, maybe this one just dont like them. My father, which is a mechanic figures its just the nature of the beast. He said his old 6 liter use to do the same and hes been right thru it. But were gonna take the valve covers and see if we can do a valve set on it, and see if that will help it.

There's no way to adjust valves form under the valve covers in an ls engine that I know of. Other than pulling and shimming the valve springs, but that's some time consuming work there. It has a single rocker leg with all the arms bolted to it torqued to 22 ft/lbs. Push rod length is the only way to adjust them. In other words don't waste your time, but if need be, replace the lifters. Be ready to pull the heads though.

My seat belts in both my GMT800's do that.....

 

As far as lifter noise, My 99 5.3 has it when I crank after it sits over night and it is cold outside. My 01 6.0 the lifters tap tap and tap and tap some more, but it is gone when you hit the gas pedal.

 

As long as it is upper valve train don't worry about it. Piston slap is a common thing in GM's.... They have done it for a long time.

 

If your using a gold NAPA filter try a different one. I am a NAPA Jobber, and I have used them on my truck since I bought it. Try a different grade of filter see if that makes a change. Gold is 1042, Silver is 3-1042, Pro-Select is 2-1042, or Platinum is a 4-1042.

If I use napa I use 1522 instead of the shorter(designed for corvettes) 1042.
