That's what I am using in mine. Getting ready for my second oil change now, should be this weekend as I am approaching 6K miles. I am running the Mobil 1 0W-30 Advanced Fuel Economy with a Delco filter

1/3 way to my 1st change dealers gonna do my 1st tho, they sent me a coupon for a free oil change already

I've kept with Mobil 1/Puralator Gold for the first three oil changes on mine but am going to Amsoil Signature series oil and filter at 12k. Then it will be oil and filter changes at 12k.

If you are under the manufactures warranty, the Mobil 1 5w-30 dexos1 approved oil is fine, HOWEVER I would use their ac delco oil filter to keep the warranty intact.

that kind of what I was thinking ...better to use the ac delco so it jives with the warranty better

I think you're on the right track with that.

I know the chances are VERY SLIM that it would ever be an issue, but with the 2011+ trucks the dexos spec has the potential to make for awkward warranty claims. It's been discussed many times that GM cannot mandate a certain brand of filter (Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act), so as long as the filter meets the application it legally cannot be a reason to deny warranty.

However, dexos appears to be different in that is isn't a "brand" but rather is a spec. Much like 10W-40 oil would not meet the specs on our engines, GM could claim that a non dexos oil doesn't meet the spec outlined by them. Now the even muddier issue. The only commonly available dexos approved oils in my area are Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, and Quaker State Ultimate Durability (or GM oil @ dealer). However, both Castrol and Valvoline (and apparently Royal Purple from previous post) have an oil that claims to meet the spec, but isn't on the official GM list. http://www.gmdexos.com/licensedbrands.html

I'm not sure what would happen if you were running one of these not on the official list and had an engine problem. Again I know chances are very slim it would ever create a problem, but I'm personally sticking to the list with Pennzoil Platinum or Quaker State Ultimate Durability. I have a Purolator PureOne filter on now. OP, you are certainly safe with Mobil 1 and a Delco filter.

That list hasn't been updated, any oil marked with dexos1™ label is "approved".

There is no requirement that using an AC Delco oil filter is necessary for maintaining the vehicle warranty. As long as the filter is the correct part number for the truck engine and the filter is changed according to the recommendations, you are free to use any filter. Yes, even a FRAM

As far as the OP's oil selection, the main requirement is to use the proper weight (viscosity) for the conditions. That's all covered in the owner's manual. Any good grade of regular dino oil, synthetic blend, or full synthetic meeting the GM specs will work fine. Many dealers are using synthetic blends for oil changes and they may tell customers that they can go longer between oil changes when using a blend.

Royal Purple is not a dexos1 approved oil.

Going the Mobil 1 and AC delco route is a good choice. Asking what oil and filter to go with on any forum now a days is just asking to open up a can of worms. It is probably one of the most asked questions out there besides "what size tires can I put on my truck".

Any oil on the store shelf that has dexos 1 on the label will work well. You have those oil brands that paid GM to be on their list and some didn't want to pay the price but still manufacture the oil to meet dexos 1 specifications so it can be printed on their label.

That's not true. GM updates that list as needed. If the oil isn't on it, then it isn't "approved" by GM. Many oils claim that meet the dexos spec, and they may, but if they don't have the approved dexos tag on the front of the bottle and/or have their name on GM's list, then it is a no go.
