What did you do with your truck/shop today

I appreciate the info, but I've been fixing them for a good part of my life. Out of any new stuff, Ariens is still probably one of the best, but nowhere near what it was in the 60's & 70's (nothing is, of course). Those  older units never die. Built like tanks, and super simple. My Toro is also pretty heavy duty, although a bit more complicated mechanically. That said, it's still very reliable.

 

If I had an unlimited bank account, I'd buy a Yamaha.

Today in the shop:

 

This guy Tom that drove from 2 hours away insisted because he heard from a friend I was the best. Nice complement but I'm good at what I do because I've been doing it for 9 years on GM clusters. This particular cluster he brought me out of a 2002 F350 I had never seen before.  Still took me all of 10 minutes to find the problem and 8 of those was taking it apart.  Here's a picture of the cause of his failed cluster taken from my electronic microscope.

 

Asked him for $20 when he got back home and tested it and he gave me $50 on the spot fully confident I had the problem fixed. Hope I don't get one of those calls!!!

That happened in my dad's old '09 he long since sold with the radio button. Dash peeled up on the passenger side too revealing some ugly color the same way.

 

Just another example of how automakers don't give a crap about their customers anymore. Quality today is an accident!

I'm shocked mine hasn't really started doing this.  Worst part of the dash is when I was an idiot and instead of using some floss and glue remover to take off the 3M thingie I used a pocket knife   I think the steering wheel controls might be fading a little, that or they're super dirty.  Dash isn't all broken and cracked yet which for living in FL seems to be a major accomplishment.  I guess I'll find out how well it's fared after 10+ weeks of not having a sun shade up on the windshield.

You can get new buttons off of ebay, did this for a friend of mine. Once I was done I clear coated them and they stayed nice.

In the shop this morning did a cluster repair for an 04 Sierra.  Speedo and oil only.  He'll be back!!!

We've owned our '86 Grand Marquis for 16 years now, and in that time, it's only seen 3 months of one winter back in '03, before we bought the house. I had to change the bumper in 2010, just from that!

 

Wish I had taken a pic of the bumper faces - night and day difference. The one on the left came from PA, and was perfect. Mine was perforated, and chrome was peeling up.
