From a distance, the engine in that looks identical to the one in my old DR-Z400S. That thing responded better to mods than any bike I have ever been on, before or since!

 

I've been out of the loop for a while - it also looks similar to a Yamaha 400/426 engine as well.

Nice Ryan - I still remember helping my dad do all that, and oil changes, etc.. The good ol' days.

 

At least she's not using steel wool like my buddy's wife did ... HAHAHHAA! She though she was being helpful ....

My son found a sanding pad on our shoe rack and took it to the side of my wife's van . That was a few years ago he was trying to wash it

I still would've got beat back in the day ... I manage to scratch vehicles with a damn lamb skin wash mit - I can't imagine what sandpaper would do!

 

Yeah kids just want to help, but they don't understand the basics yet. Case in point, I went to get a sticker for a guy's bike I had finished repairing, and the guy at the shop doing the sticker had his 2-3 year old running around the place. He was fascinated with the rear brake pedal, and kept grabbing it. I'm thinking to myself ... maybe I should warn the kid of the hot pipes before he goes and touches them. BAD idea .... as soon as I said HOT and NO, the kid reaches for the pipe, 2" from the cylinder head. Luckily they were cooling for 10 minutes by then, and had a second layer for a chrome heat shield (eliminates the ugly blue that would inevitably happen, thanks to EPA carb tuning). Still made him shake his hand and cry though. Bet the next bike that comes in won't have kid prints on it ....

I added a quarter of a quart of oil this morning to top her off, then filled her up with 21.xx gallons of 91.

 

Lately I've been driving her until quite a few miles into the "low fuel" light warning, and in this last tank full I averaged 13mpg. That's a pretty low number compared to what were used to seeing in modern times but its not too bad considering it was a high percentage of street and hard driving.

Ahh, so that was a Yamaha. I was trying to identify it from that pic on the previous page.

 

I still can't tell if that's a 450R or some other model. Last time I rode a true sport ATV was when I had a '87 Honda TRX250R. Thing was crazy - wasn't too pretty, but it flew! That's back when I realized I was a mechanic, and not a body guy - I can make 'em run, but can't make 'em look good, lol.
