99 sierra possible fuel issues

Hi ive got a 99 sierra 5.3 liter with 160000 miles on it. I came home form a weekend trip, went to get in my truck and it barely started and then shuttered bad at a really low rpm. Now it is at the point where it barely starts and if it does it stalls out within a second or two. I sprayed starting fluid in the intake and it starts up and runs for a few seconds until the starter fluid is gone, then its back to shuttering and stalling. I replaced the fuel filter and it didnt change anything and i got a fuel pressure guage and it is reading 55psi. So i guess its not my pump either. If anyone has any idea what this could be it is greatly appreciated. Im pretty frustrated and need some help! Thank you!!

Did you check the regulator? How long does the fuel pressure hold at 55psi? If you're still on your factory pump consider yourself very fortunate. BTW....there are tons of post regarding fuel issues on the site. A little searching can go along way in getting your problem solved.

Definitely sound like the fuel pump went out. Exact same symptoms I had when mine went out in my 02 at 150K miles.

 

A lot of people are only getting 50K-60K miles out of their pumps. I do think it helps a lot to always try fill up at a 1/4 tank to keep the pump cool.
