LT tires on a 1/2 Sierra

I'm sure this subject has been covered a few times, but I couldn't find any information on my specific vehicle. I have a 2008 GMC Sierra Z71 4x4 ext cab 5.3L. Since I tow a bit, I'm considering going to a LT tire, but I'm not taking a huge step up to the Load Range E. I've picked out a set of Firestone Destination AT's which are LT265/70/17 (Load Range C). I'm curious what psi I should run the tires at when there's no load. I found some talbes....see below - but they're for Toyo's and I think they refer to a Toyota pickup as well. Either way...should I really only have 35-40psi in a LT tire on my pickup without a load? Thought you might have to take into acct wieight of truck, etc? Not sure on this one, but I want to make sure I maximize the life of the tires even though I'm rotating/alignments regularly. The truck came with p-metrics.....I've had goodyear wrangler ats and bridgestone dueller revo2's on the truck, but they wear out something fierce. Anyway, wondeirng how I should handle the new LTs when I get them.

Application of load inflation tables

I have extra load P tires and the max psi is 60 I believe. I run 50-55

35-40 will probably be plenty when empty. Have you checked Firestone web site for their inflation chart?

I have 09 Sierra with LT load E BFGs and run 40lbs in them. After about 15000 miles they are wearing pretty evenly and the ride didn't changed much. As long as you rotate regularly you should be ok.

I ran the LTs on my old truck at 35-40. They were E, but that should work with your C tires as well.

I have E rated Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT's on my 08 and run 40psi......50-55psi is WAY to much air to run, especially in a P rated tire :banghead: . Don't run your LT tires at that pressure, no need for it unless you are at max load.

Not sure why some people think you need to run max pressure all the time, not the smartest idea unless you like the feel of cement tires. Your TPMS will also disagree with that pressure and not function properly after 50psi.

There is no P on my tires. it just says 275/55R20XL its a 60 or 65 psi max. I tow frequently. and dont like changing pressures a lot

MORE IMPORTANT-

What inflation pressures are the wheels rated at?

Also, XL stands for "extra load" verses "P" tires.

Im guessing the XL is an "in between" of P and LT

I did check the Firestone web site. Not as much information on that site when switching from P to LT. It primarily just talks about the different types of tires and what they are rated for. Good information, just not exactly what I was looking for. Good suggestiong though.

I'm a fanatic about rotating and aligning.....so I hope if I stay around 40psi and my every 5000 mi routine of rotating and 2x yr aligning.....I should be good to go. I got 30K on my P metric Revos so I'm looking for some more.

My 285 65 18s have 41 psi and I think its a perfect pressure for my liking. My Max psi is 80, my tpms agrees that 41 is the Max that it likes lol.
