Goodbye - traded GMC for a Ram today

The GMC was a 2010 work truck, basically the least expensive truck you could get. They were going cheap at the time and I got it for $15,500.

Today's paper had an ad for a Ram 1500 Express reg. cab with the hemi, 20" wheels, dual exhausts, trailer brake controller, power windows, locks, SiriusXM and limited slip rear - all for $19,995 against a sticker of $27,170. I visited a different dealer where I'd bought some Chrysler stuff in the past and he matched the price from the other dealer and offered me $12,000 for my GMC, so it was my truck plus $8,000. My GMC was in nice shape and only had 19,000 miles. It was never used for work and had a few accessories.

The Ram is pretty nice. It's more solid than the GMC, for example the way the doors sound when you shut them is far more like a luxury car than the GMC. The coil spring suspension gives a significantly smoother ride.

One thing I noticed today was unexpected - the airflow inside the cab is completely different and calmer with the windows down in the Ram. The cab seems to be a little bigger behind the seats and I guess the air can flow better. I couldn't drive the GMC with the windows down because the wind blew right into my left ear in an uncomfortable way.

So the GMC was good to own from a resale value and it has been dependable and has the best A/C of any vehicle I've ever owned. But I've moved on to a little more luxury and power. I've enjoyed my stay here at the forum and I wish you all good luck and goodbye.

Did you buy a leftover 2012? The dealers are offering some good discounts, nothing wrong with buying a '12 and saving some cash.

Good luck with the Ram. Hope it's a good truck for you. Don't feel like you have to leave; I for one would be glad to hear how you like the new truck down the road in a few weeks/months.

Congrats on the new truck!! I wish you the best of luck with it. Keep us posted on you are liking it.

Cool, on Gearz (speed channel) they had an episode on the dodge ram express trucks. Nice package for a great price.

I saw that episode of Gears, I think Stacy put leather seat covers in it and gave it a BullyDog tune too. Good luck on the new truck, my FIL has a 2010 Ram 1500 CC Larimie and it rides pretty good, plenty of power. I don't know why Dodge still uses 5 lugs for their wheels and everyone else is using 6? IDK, 6 just seems beefier to me.

Congrats sounds like a sweet truck for a great deal! I hear you on driving with the windows down though. My new truck is the same way, but my 2009 never hurt my ears having the windows down? No idea why because it's basically the same truck? Anyway good luck with your Ram!

Good deal with your GMC........Glad you at least did it right with the Ram and got a Hemi. Enjoy!

How does it ride with when loaded with the rear coils vs the leaf packs that were on the GM?

Congrats on the new truck. Hope it serves you well.

And I must say... We've got quality people here. Not one knock against the OP.

Congrats on your new toy. As long as you're buying American (well half American and half Pasta Fazol), we should be happy. RAM is a good truck. There are good points and bad points with each truck. However when you compare, you need to compare apples to apples. What type of equipment options did you have on your GM and compare that with a similar level RAM?

not gonna lie, those regular cab RAM R/T's look pretty good. i would never buy a chrysler product, or fiat product but still.

Good luck with the new purchase. I looked at the Rams but they didn't make and Ext Cab, LB so they were out of the running.
