So I have never changed my fuel filter and my dad asked me if I ever done it . I was like .............. nope . Ive done all my oil changes and oil filter changes , and grease the 6 nipples by the tires. I am not sure where the fuel filter is tho. A picture or a description of where it is would be nice .

You don't have a serviceable filter. Filter is part of the fuel pump in the tank.

'04 began the in-tank units except for some flex fuel vehicles

If you were to have one it would be on the drivers side frame rail

thanks for the response. So i notice by my tank near the back of it there is a plastic cylinder what is that ?

Also why would the fuel pump be in the tank and the filter both those parts go bad and dont last forever. Sounds like a pain if they go bad.

My thoughts were the same way.. Why they didnt put an external fuel filter is ridiculous..

they did away with the filter when GM went to the return less fuel system..but nobody said you could put a factory inline filter in yourself..

Adding an additional inline filter won't do any good. the fuel would already be filtered by the time it got to it. All of the particles will still get caught by the OE one first. Then when the OE one plugs you are still SOL.

I think the idea is that being immersed in the sloshing gasoline keeps the filter sock from being clogged, I think that was the theory anyway.

Gas is a lot better then it used to be, this combined with the return less fuel system means on average your pump will go before your filter gets clogged. That's why GM decided to do away with the in-line pump, also to save money. There are also fine screen filters in your injectors that would more then likely catch anything before it got to the injector pintle. Just run a good fuel injector cleaner like Techron or Redline every once in awhile and get your gas from a station that has a lot of business so you know the gas isn't sitting for awhile.
