Hmmmmm, the oil dipstick is on the left side of the engine. Lets hope there's NO AFM bs. I wonder if its a 5.3L? Wouldn't it be nice if it was a 5.3 that put out more horses than a 6.2?

I'm pretty sure the new trucks will have AFM on at least one motor.

I saw some info on the corvette motor. It's going to be a 6.2 DI with AFM.

So I wouldn't be surprised if the 5.3 and 6.2 have AFM.

Just my $0.02.

If the have the technology to use this afm for economy&effeciency why cant they make a new big block with that option? So you can get 16-18 mpg,s until you need full displacment for towing etc...

I bet ALL the new ones will have AFM. Let's hope I'm wrong.

That's what I was thinking. Hopefully I'm wrong too.

AFM isnt going to get you 16-18mpg on a big block overall. My overall average over 15k miles (with some towing) is 15.8mpg and I'm not too hard on the gas pedal. Yes some easy trips can yeild some good mpgs, but the average of all miles on the vehicle is what counts to me. With that being said, I didn't buy my truck because I thought I'd get good gas mileage.

AFM is mostly for hwy driving, and it works very well on mine @ those speeds (granted, it's a 4-spd 3.73, with higher hwy rpms than the newer 6-spd/5.3's). For city driving, it's not going to help much... but a lot of guys pull long hwy miles, and many of those are in the western (flat) states. I personally think AFM is a good idea on the bigger motors, but not so much on smaller ones. There should be a switch that allows the driver to disable it if they want, since the GM design works the same as a non-AFM motor when it's disabled.

Once they move to the higher geared autos (8/9/10 spds), the "usefulness" of AFM will probably disappear... but we'll probably be wishing we had it back. I dread rolling through hills, and shifting 10-9-7-8-9-7-8-9-10, all within 20 seconds.

Sometimes the 5 speed allison feelslike its searching for a gear at times.. i cant imagine a 7 or 8 speed..

I absolutely hated the AFM. I traded my 2011 5.3 for a 2011 6.2 because I HATED the oil sucking engine. I wish AFM dies a horrible death.

I've had my 2007 for 5 years, over 80,000 miles now. It's got the 5.3L with AFM and I have no complaints. Beforehand, I had a 2006 Silverado with the 4.8L, and before that I had a 2000 Durango with a 4.7L V8.

I really don't get the hatred on AFM. I have yet to see a downside.

You must have gotten one that doesn't suck oil like its job. Lot of them had problems.

New article over at GMinsidenews.com says that GM is getting real serious about the GEN V 8's. Hopefully, they will spend more R&D on these engines and forget about a turbo V6.

Shows that when they focus, the gas V8 can be the future, and with the government making the diesels less desireable, maybe they are starting to put some effort into our beloved V8!

I have a had a 5 of the 5.3 engines in the 900 platform, with varying mileage; highest having about 70,000 miles and had no issues with oil nor reliability. I am not saying that the 5.3 is a power house, nor that others haven't had trouble. I have used Mobil 1 in all of mine and they haven't had any mechanical failures or immense oil burning.
