If I remember right the shield pro or whatever they are calling the ported model is ported (obviously lol) and I think they changed the trigger slightly. Other than that it's a regular shield.

Also has fiber optic sights and the slide is "cut" for weight. I didn't even think to try the trigger since I didn't know about that change.

After borrowing the inner tie rod end removal kit I still can't get past this. I don't know if it's because it's too tight or a mid of that plus the rounding out of the flat contact areas. I think my last resort will be the pipe wrench.

I use moog but try vise grips and heat Like a propane torch. Or soak in pb blaster and hit it a few times.

Heat helps alot. With the old school ones, I always replaced the inner, outer, & collar all in one shot, just to avoid this debacle, since they're always welded solid with rust. With a rack, that's a different ball game. First steering rack I've ever touched in my life was last August in our Volvo 940. Zero experience in that area.

I went to the post office a few years back and picked up 118 lbs of lead ... on my '74 RD350. The postmaster called me, because she couldn't even lift one box to move it off their cart, lol! You should've seen the look she gave me when I told her I was putting both boxes on a bike - a small bike at that.

 

 

After 10+ years working at UPS I'm still surprised by the random crap people ship. Have had lead shipments and all kinds of other metals. 118#s in 2 boxes is pretty nice those aren't even considered over weights in our system. I probably added another 70-100lbs of wheel weights into the back of my dually. I toyed with the idea of moving that entire tub bit by bit into the butt of the beast, then I remembered how lazy and tired I was and gave up on that idea. If it wasn't so much work I would like to load it all up in the bed and get the truck weighed, measure the rear end height, then empty it out, weigh and measure it again just for S&Gs. One to see how much I've actually got and how much it takes to sag the butt however far it sags.

I never really understood porting a defensive weapon. Maybe because I'm a night worker and don't want to be blinded anymore than I already would be. Ammo companies have spent tens of thousands in research on flash suppressants and gun makers cut holes that shoot the flames/flash directly into your line of sight haha. I like my regular used and abused range rental shield, I've seen too many fiber optic stick break, come lose, fall out, or what have you to want them on a carry gun.

The ported barrel reduces the felt recoil pretty dramatically. I would imagine this will make even the worst shooter that much more accurate. Just don't fire it without your ears on - those ports direct all the sound waves directly to your eardrums ... I found this out the hard way firing a .260 pistol without hearing protection. Everything sounded like the teacher on The Peanuts for about 3 hours ...

Still stand by my original statement regardless. No matter what anyone says to me I'll only think of a Shield or other small guns as defensive guns. Can still have fun with them but some comps have a min barrel length.

 

Yeah they do reduce recoil but I've never been recoil shy. Probably why I'm not a fast shooter. Sadly at this point I'd assume I'm not even a good shooter. ICORE match is Sunday morning, looks like I'm going to miss yet another one umpteen months and counting. Makes me a bit sad that I used to shoot a match every now and then with 357 mag loads just because I could and now I can't even get off my butt to shoot anything.

 

I've seen a good bit of people "dump" their shots anticipating the recoil so in that instance I don't think it would help those specific shooters but follow up time should be greatly reduced. Unless they're just super slow like me and there's no hope haha

Yes, the gmt800's have a rack and pinion.

 

And I was finally able to get a good grip with channel locks but I still can't get it to budge. After many hours and a swollen pinky I called it a day, tomorrow my dad is coming over and will probably loosen it in 3 minutes. lol

 

Although how do I use PB blaster on this without, contaminating the rack?

Carmax offered me $10k for my '06 reasonable offer so at least I know where to start. Maybe I can get $11-12k from a private sale. Just need to decide if the effort is worth it or not. Haven't even done anything today and I'm already tired.

I wish I had used my brain more earlier today and remembered that my range does one of their monthly shotgun (skeet/trap) range qualifications after the ICORE Matches. Match was this morning, didn't go to it, but I was there this afternoon for an RSO meeting. Would have been real convenient to go get my qualification back.

 

Buddy's dad has that exact wooden box I think.
