Found my 1099G form for unemployment online, and entered it into Turbotax. Unless I get the tax credit for being a student (which I don't see happening since I'm not paying for it) I'll only get $81 back in federal. So there goes my plans to fix the rust on the cab of my truck, at least for now anyway.

Damn that sucks. Are the loans in your name? Are you filing as independent? If so you should qualify.

Not in my name, and yes filing as independent. My loans are through TRA (Trade Readjustment Allowance) due to losing my job. I don't pay for anything. My books, laptop, and tuition are all paid for through the TRA.

Just dug out from a foot of snow we got today. Temps started the morning off in the high 20's, and fell to 10° right now. Nice powdery snow, so cleanup was fairly easy. Took 3 hours.

 

I got the friggin '94 S10 plow truck operational at the last minute last night! Couldn't believe it was that easy. I had written a post about it last night, but clicked something and lost the whole damn post! Was pissed and went to bed.

 

Anyway ... I decided to go up the hill late yesterday afternoon to fire it up, since the engine was soaking wet with condensation from the temperature hitting 47° yesterday. Fired it up and was looking over the engine wondering what kind of miserable crap awaited me in trying to fix it. Saw a what I thought was a piece of busted plastic - I grabbed it and it sucked my skin in. Wow - big vacuum leak! No wonder the 4x4 didn't work. Cut and installed a fresh line on there, and got the 4x4 to work after cranking the starter over in gear to make the truck move. As the truck was running, I noticed smoke coming out from under the passenger side door. Threw some metal on the ground so I could kneel in the snow, and got my body under there as rust and melting snow pelted me in the face. The stupid plastic clutch line had melted to the Y-pipe! Sweet! Thought for sure there was an internal clutch issue from the sound it made - was probably just the clutch slamming into the flex plate when the line popped.

 

Now the project was to try and start the engine in gear (no clutch, of course). Threw it in reverse and attempted to start. Just stalled the starter. Put in 1st, moved about 6" and also stalled starter, so I slammed brake, threw in reverse and 4-low, let off the brake and hit the starter at same time. VROOM! Off I go, out of control in reverse, HAHAHA! Managed to get to driveway without hitting anything, so that was nice.

 

Went on a 2 hour excursion to find a 5/16" brass compression union - that's a whole other story in and of itself. People in this state think they're the only ones on the friggin planet .... but I digress.

 

When I finally got home, I chopped the plastic clutch line where it had melted to the Y-pipe, tightened up the union, and away I went! Couldn't believe it worked! Only took 10 minutes .. with about an hour of pumping the pedal to get the air out of it. Drove the thing up the road for the first time in 7.5 weeks. Left a pile of rust on the ground where I was working a half inch deep, lol.

 

Put 4.5 miles on it today plowing. Thing REEKS of mouse piss, and burning flesh of whatever animal was living in it - probably mice. Had to clean chewed up acorns off the seats ... little pricks! :lol:

 

Thing performed flawlessly today, aside from getting stuck a few times. Tires are terrible, and I don't have as much weight in the back this time. Didn't feel like bench pressing my 4.3 short block into the bed, so I threw about 50 lbs. of worn brake pads, and a few hundred pounds of rotors and drums in there too.

 

Resurrected! For now ... :D

If you don't have any student loans to repay then you don't qualify.

That's what I was thinking. TurboTax is being strange about it, and seems to think I qualify. I think I need another form yet for the TRA so maybe that's why? I'm not sure yet. Either way I'm not taking it because I'm not supposed to get it.

Hmm.. interesting... seems a bit too bright though.. not too sure I like how bright it is at the base of the needles. I'd like to see that bleed light hidden.

Part of the issue with a light colored gauge face. In the day and night with the red needles it looks normal. Not over the top. I haven't driven it at night yet. That pic was in my garage. Still will be better than the blue and the area between 45 and 75 constantly flashing while I am trying to drive at night

Got my autocal today, just finished up changing everything on it for my truck. Probably going to get a scan file tomorrow.

That's good though, didn't loan too much to Uncle Sam. I did, with my transfer I took just enough of a pay cut to move down a tax bracket and changed my child credit from last year.

I'd rather have the loan at this point in time being currently I'm only making $20k a year. Can't get many large things accomplished making that.

      Can you sample the pooled liquid, enough to confirm it is oil?   ...That its not fuel or coolant.   Also, make sure combustion gases aren't entering the cooling system.   Simply put, either oil being pushed up past the rings (this really isn't possible), oil leaking past the head gasket, oil leaking past the valve, oil entering through the intake air path. If none of this is likely - it may not be oil.   What could be likely is the fuel injector leaking down. A puddle of gas would still smoke and rough idle. (Same cylinder has the same problem after injector replacement?)   What is the crank time first thing in the morning, when the puddle would be present? Does it seem like the high pressure fuel pump needs an extra second or two to rebuild the pressure that injector 8 may have let bleed off? Check the fuel pressure via a scanner prior to starting the engine.

      Good information!  I didn't know about the dementia aspect and asked for a general for my second knee. I'd heard that recovery room time is usually shorter with a general.   The anesthesiologist talked me out of it and I had the spinal.  Inconvenience and/or discomfort is a small price to pay for reduced risk!

      This is for those over 70 years of age contemplating joint replacement surgery involving general anesthesia. Even some 55 yrs. ago when I took my pharmacology class the dangers of developing dementia in the elderly that had general anesthesia were beginning to be recognized. Over the years there has been some refinement in the cautionary warnings, avoid general anesthesia if possible if you've had close to 10 priors, especially over the age of 70 and/or a family history of dementia. I'm not including the twilight anesthesia induced by propofol often used in cytoscopies or colonscopies. Seriously think about seeing a neurologist and undergo cognitive testing before proceeding if any of those criteria apply to you. Spinal anesthesia may be an option in some cases. I'm in the above camp and although I could use a new right knee, I get fidgety according to a prior orthopedic surgeon when the bone saw spools up or maybe it was the smell of saw blade meeting bone, anyhow I may have one general anesthesia left in me which I will pocket for now and I'm choosing mind over mobility, anyway where did I leave my damn cane!
