So looking for a little insight for a truck at work. It's a diesel and has a block heater. It doesn't get driven all the time, it usually sits 2 weeks at a time or so. I try and keep it plugged in to make it easier to start on these cold mornings.

Anyways, I was thinking since it sets a lot I was gonna add a battery tender to the truck. Just curious if y'all think I could tie it in with the block heater cord so I only plug in one cord to run both the maintainer and the block heater? I personally don't see an issue, just need to make sure I hook up the wires correctly lol

Lol, I had several posts deleted on Slickdeals by simply a saying the MSF hospital was blown up on Obama's watch. There are dozens of anti trump posts that were left up.

Then a mod said I violated their policy, that I asked why my post was deleted. I never did, I simply posted "interesting that my post was removed......."(and then linked to a MSF press release) Their policy says you can't start a thread about deleted posts, so I violated nothing. Snowflake got their feelings hurt.

We will be doomed in another 30 years when this country is run by kids who got participation trophy for sucking at everything.

That's par for the course today! Things are really bad in this state ... :nonod: The PC capitol of America.

Ordered some chassis paint from Summit. I think I might add my steering stabilizer this weekend and there's a few spots in various places I need to touch up.

I'd keep 'em separate. Wat if you need one and not the other? Is it really that much effort for someone to plug in a second plug? You could attach the the 2 cords with a zip tie etc.... to keep them close to each other

It's probably a 1200-1500 watt block heater in which case you are already pulling a considerable amount of electricity thru that cord and thru the outlet. I'd run a separate cord from a separate outlet. Also- consider running a timer on that block heater. No point in having it on all the time wasting electricity. You can have the timer turn on about 2 hours before work starts, and then off when you go home for the day, unless it's possible for the truck to be used after hours.

I was just thinking tying them together to one plug would make it easier instead of running two cords to the same truck. I also keep two trucks plugged in overnight, hasn't tripped the breaker yet. I'm sure I'm just trying to make it easier for me when I could just install it and run a separate cord to the battery tender and block heater.

Also, I never know which day I need the truck so I just keep it plugged up and ready to use whenever. The driver is usually back after I leave and I get in early so overnight is no big deal

The charger isn't going to draw a whole lot of amperage, so it would probably work. My thought is the high draw of the block heater is going to take away needed juice for the charger.

So long as the wires are of a heavy enough gauge to handle both, I don't see why you couldn't do it.

I figured it's a 1.5 amp trickle charger so that's around 180 watts. I'll figure something out and report back. I know the current harness that is there for the block heater is either 10 or 12 gauge wire

I think that should be plenty, so long as it's not 50' long.

I figure a woman's hair dryer pulls 1,500 watts, and uses 16 gauge wire for a 3' run, so an additional 180 watts won't make much difference. All depends on the length of the run.

A trickle charger should run all the time, block heater should be turned on about 2 hours before the vehicle is needed.

That said, I'd rather just unhook the battery. I've heard of trickle chargers starting fires.

I don't think it has any type of internal timer so this one just runs all the time. And yeah I've heard of them starting fires too lol. Most of the time I usually know the evening before I need the truck, unless our other truck goes down and this one is back up, that's why I like to make sure it's ready whenever. I'm gonna start running it more often so I may hold off on the trickle charger, or hook it up and just keep it separate so when I need to I'll plug it in

    • There was talk over the last couple of years that the contract to build these trucks between GM and International would not be renewed.  International moved production of all their other trucks besides the companion CV model out of the Springfield plant some time ago when they opened their San Antonio plant.  That left Springfield only building the Silverado Medium Duty, International CV Series, and some Express/Savanna long wheelbase cutaways.  International also put the plant up for sale some time ago.  This all answered my earlier question as to why GM and International did nothing with these trucks since they were introduced, as they had basically become a market 'placeholder' with a finite life.    The Silverado Medium Duty/International CV trucks were interesting combination of a GM powertrain, electrical system, and K2XX Silverado cab with an International chassis that was supposedly designed for a step-van type vehicle they never produced.  They were manufactured in International's Springfield plant along with the IH MV series initially.  When first introduced, there was much talk that the Silverado Medium Duty/CV would eventually get a gasoline engine option along with other upgrades and GM and IH would work on a class 6/7 joint venture truck.  This was before VW bought Navistar out, after that happened no more was said.  Draw your own conclusions...   About the time talk started that the GM/IH joint venture was not going to be renewed, rumors started that GM would develop a new line of medium duty trucks themselves.  The story is the new trucks will be part of the next generation HD's due in 2028, and will still feature a 'straight rail' chassis design that the current medium duty has.  GM views this as a desirable feature that differentiates their truck from the competition.  A gasoline engine option is also expected.  As the current Silverado Medium Duty remains in production until September 2026 and there is still a lot of inventory available do not expect any official word for some time.   I believe GM remains committed to their successful partnership with Isuzu, and all the LCF models will still be available from Chevy Commercial dealers.  Isuzu is on the cusp of opening a new large plant in South Carolina and there is also speculation that this may result in new product for both Isuzu and Chevy Commercial dealers.
    • drive the truck back to the dealer and complain that the button works.

    • I have a 2026 2500 HD Ultimate. My phone app says there’s a software update available. It’s something about improved battery management and something to do with the running boards. I follow the instructions for the update but the “Check for Updates” option is greyed out in my settings menu. Has anyone else seen this? How did you resolve it? The help message just says “see your dealer” if the download doesn’t work. I’m just trying to save a trip.
    • Fuel mileage?  That's all how you use your right foot.  Exhaust will give you sound.   Stock exhaust 5.3 is 2.75" diameter piping.     If the truck is nice and worth putting some $$ into it, I'd go for a Corsa catback.  I had one on my 2019 old body 5.3 and it was just perfect.  Zero drone, just driving around and cruising on the highway you'd think it was stock, but when you opened it up it was like a Camaro with the factory dual mode.  Corsa bumps their catback to 3in diameter.
