with the terrible drivers and large trucks/big rigs on the roads today, its probably more dangerous driving on public streets then it is on a closed course straight line strip in a pickup

I would buy the gear and keep her happy. Some people think safety glasses and ear plugs are over the top until they go deaf and blind.

I would use the NHRA rule book for what is required for clothing. But I don't care if it is a 20 second 4 cylinder brick I would add a good 5 point harness. Most cars/trucks are well built and will protect you as long as you stay where you should. On the drag strip if something happens the best place is inside your truck where you can't get thrown out. Just my $0.02 on this, the old rules did say faster than 10.00 you must have the 5 point system so that to me is the one must have.

I circle track race so I already have all the above mentioned gear. Everytime I take my Chevelle to the strip I wear it, it's not really needed since it is only a 13.0 car but I have it so why not

Except the harnesses have expiration dates. My friend has a Chevelle he runs at the track with the factory lap belt because he isn't at the cutoff for a harness (for now ). Yet once he reaches that and has to install a harness, it magically has to be changed every few years whereas right now his decades old lap belt is okay. Makes no sense.

I hate to admit it but that is all I have in my Chevelle also (65 Malibu SS) seems kinda dumb when I think about full gear head to toe, $800 helmet, $5 lap belt

see if she will accept the nomex underwear(like the flanel stuff) and meet her in the middle. Hey atleast she didn't find you looking at porn site in your history lol, but if she did this probally wouldn't have came up lol. It is funny my wife forbid me from ridding motorcycles when i had my bad wreck, but the other day she told me I could get back on when i finish building my meanstreak I bought to make some money on. It comes in waves, she may change her mind down the road.
