Chevy Cruze questions on pricing and overall impressions

Would you really want someone you care about driving a Cruze? There are much better options out there when it comes to eco boxes.

Since you seem to think you know everything about everything, what's wrong wit hthe Cruze that you would not want someone driving it? Crash test rating is top of the charts all around. Which cars are better in your opinion? Let me know so I can run out and buy one.

Please list the issues you have had with your Cruze and why it is so dangerous.

Music, Certain states have different tax laws if you are Active Duty Military. Wranglerguy93 is military like me so the info I provided is applicable to him.

Oops... I missed the military part before.

My mom has a 2012 Cruze LS and she really likes it. No problems whatsoever. The interior is great IMO. Drives great and is very comfortable.

Finally started looking around and have a price of 19,612 for a 2013 Summit White Cruze with the all-star and RS package. I didn't really want new but if I can get other incentives or work them down to a reasonable offer why not. Especially when used Cruzes are going for 16 or 17 thousand with 20,000 miles or so on them why not just go with a brand new car. I am going to try and get them down as much as I can. I don't want to be in the same boat I am in with the truck with probably paying to much. So with everyone that has them do you mind putting out some numbers of what you found yours for, so I can compare and see what type of deal I can find.

Thanks again

My wife's was 23,000 out the door. It's Summit White 1LT with the RS Package with red interior accents. She also has the All Star Edition.

If you are not suck on a a exact color or trim model, I would suggest going to the lot and see what they have. Go in knowing what the insentives are avaliable, and see what the dealer is willing to do. That is how I did it there in Clarksville on my truck. I went to James Carlow and told them I want the best deal they had on their 3/4ton 2500HDs, and they showed me three different trucks. Each of the trucks were a little different, but I remember they were willing to deal because I told them I was serious about buying a truck that day. Out of the two trucks the one other one that I was close to getting was a white, crew cab 8.1L,4x4 long bed work truck trim. It was stickered over $40k and they were going to let me have it for $32 or$34K(i forget which exactly). After all was said and done I got my blue one, the sticker on it was $29k+ and I got it for $20k out the door.

Be cool with them and treat them with respect, but be firm, and explain your situation and they will work for you. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. Right now I have dealers getting me quotes. That has been the best one so far. I am not to picky but this will be the wifes car and she wants either color, cloth and a sunroof. Those are the big options she wants.

I recall a GM loyalty discount does that come and go? The only way the one dealer is saying I could get that was if I bought another truck. Which seems stupid because if you have one truck why would you need another newer truck? No offense to anyone that does, but if GM was smart it would work across everything that way the husband can have a truck and a car or suv for the wife or something like that.

Does anyone know where I can find that? I've searched but have not come up with any program like that.

EDIT: Found the program and the Cruze somehow does not qualify with me having the truck.

Anyone know what preferred pricing is? I think we qualify for the college program but not sure if it would even help us at this point.

Well sadly my wife went to the dark side. We ended up getting a Focus. As much as I wanted her to get a Cruze she just did not like the layout on the inside enough to want it for the next few years. At least its still an American company. Thanks for all the help with looking at Cruzes.

The ford focus is a very good car. If I were in the market for a compact, it would be on my list to look at also.

i have rented a copy on my TDY trips, and overall they are good. I one car that I did hate was the prius. Great gas milage, but i really really hated the layout and the ergonomics of the car. But overall, if Mama is happy all are happy, so that is all that matters!

The one advice my father gave me when I got married. Happy wife Happy Life. She would have been real happy with another Honda but I put the kabash on that.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
