Chevy Cruze questions on pricing and overall impressions

Hello all,

 

Looking on some input on options ofr a car for the wife. She needs a new car since the honda she had was given back to her parents since they ran into some issues. The fullsize truck and jeep will not work anymore since I got back from deployment. Truck is just to large and honestly I like having my option to drive it when I want. We are looking at chevy cruzes but damn they are still expensive. An LT is around 18,000 new. I am finding 2012's with 20,000 to 30,xxx miles on them for 15 or 16 thousand. Is that normal? Just seems crazy that they didn't drop that much. What kind of wiggle room would I find on them? Like to get one under 14 if possible closer to ten the better. I'd like to stay under 20,000 miles if possible. I know I would need to pay more for that but didn't think I would pay that much more.

 

Anyone own one? Issues? Likes/Dislikes?

 

Trying to stay American made. If I need to I would go Ford but really don't want to. She won't drive a Buick either, so that really leaves a Chevy as the model.

look into honda accords, solid cars very nice and rarely have issues. my brother works at a large honda dealership as a tech he tells me he works on more GM and chrysler vehicles than hondas which only come in for routine maintenance and an occasional operator error. I looked into them before my truck when i wanted a car and i think id own another after realizing how solid my 91 accord was that i raced. plus i build and inspect the shifters for them and they are incredibly anal about them so i know they are anal about the rest of the car.

 

as far as the cruze my friend bought one a few months ago, loves the mpgs, i dont remember what he spent but hes very happy with it as opposed to the sonic he had.

I use a my Cruze for work. No problems at all and great MPG's.

I have ridden in a couple, very nice cars, especially the LTZ model.

my mom has a manual cruze eco.. is a great car and has a very well refined interior. not like the older gm cars. it drives awesome and gets about 40mpg on the highway.

Would you really want someone you care about driving a Cruze? There are much better options out there when it comes to eco boxes.

 

I guess a car with 5 star crash test rating all around wouldnt be a good car for someone you care about

We really like our Cruze. I agree the pricing is high compared to other models out there. Our economy is good and it has plenty of power and room for what we need.

 

What about the Sonic, to small?

The cruze was actually out in other parts of the world before it was introduced into the North American market. From everything I have seen and read its a very well made car. And that is part of why you do not see them losing that much value in the resale market. People know that they get good mileage, are reliable and are overall good car.

Wrangler guy I also forgot to tell you the good thing about TN is that if you buy a new car there there is no tax. When I bought my 2006 2500HD when I got back from Iraq I went and got it there at the Chevy dealer(I think it was James Carlowe, or something like that) all you pay is the registration for TN and that is like $40 bucks. Something to think about when buying new.

I've driven all the current compacts and the Cruze is among the best. But you're not going to find any near the price you're looking for. They're too new and now that they're a decent car, used prices don't drop like a rock as previous GM compacts did.

Tennessee definitely has sales tax on vehicles. You pay taxes in the state where you register a vehicle, not where it's bought.

My wife has one, and we really like it. The interior is nice, comfortable, and better put together than either of my Silverado's. She has an RS, and travels about 150 miles round trip to work each day which includes going over two mountains. She's averaging 35.7mpg as of now. I liked it for her because it has a good safety rating, and she likes it for pretty much everything else.

 

It's not the most powerful car, but it does have some decent grunt in manual shift mode, but hey it gets pretty good mileage so were not bothered by that.

Thank you all for the information. I bought my truck in TN two years ago and it was nice not having to pay sales tax for being in the military. We'll keep looking at them and maybe find one for a good deal.

Music, Certain states have different tax laws if you are Active Duty Military. Wranglerguy93 is military like me so the info I provided is applicable to him.
