Got a question, after reading thru majority of the posts in this section on lifts, still questioning my next move.. Im finally at a point where i can get a lift for my truck, considering the 4" over the 2" leveling. Although i have the money now for the lift, i dont so much for the tires... besides the look(temporary of course) can i still do the 4" lift and stick with the stock rims and tires until i can get the new tires? Will the stock rims work ok in the future? Meaning i dont need a new set of rims with offsets to benefit from the lift?

 

I dont want to get the lift if im going to have to replace more than just the tires..if i can stick with the stock rims and just go with a larger tire then im all in..

Before this truck i had 2011 F150, level kit and squeezed in some larger tires on the stock rims and looked great.. never had issues.. was hoping to do similar on this truck only with a 4" lift instead of just leveling kit.

These are the rims i have on the truck, if anyone has the 4" lift with these rims and larger tires could you post a pic of how the truck sits.. i didnt got thru all 222 pages of this section, so if there is any already out there if you can point me in the right direction to the post to review..

The stock wheels SHOULD work but ultimately it comes down to the brand lift you choose and your control arms (stamped steel, cast, aluminum). I have stamped steel which have a nub that sticks out in front of the ball joint so you can't run stock wheels with the Zone lift with stamped steel control arms (I found out the hard way) so just do your research

Ill try and take pics and post after lunch today. The lift i was considering was the tuff country 4" 2WD kit. Im def trying to do all my homework before i make the purchase. I dont want to get the kit installed and find out i cant drive the truck until i get new rims.. so def want to make sure..Ive already emailed tuff country for validation of the kit and anything i should be aware of.

I'd go with BDS or Zone over tuff country ALL DAY

Here is my truck with a Zone 4.5" and stock wheels (1.5" rear spacers). Stamped steel arms and zero rub. The tires are 275/65 20's (34.5")

 

If you work/live in or near Downtown, I'd be more than happy to meet up and let you see the truck.

BTW, if anyone is looking to change their 4.5" lift to a 6.5" lift, I have the kit listed in the classifieds forum.

are the tires close to rubbing the UCAs at full lock??

 

I have the Zone 4.5" and I was going to run the LTZ 20s on 305/55s but the tire was rubbing the UCA pretty bad

the Zone 4.5" kit keeps the truck with about 1/4" of rake.

I ordered the kit with 3" rear blocks instead of the 4" because I wanted a level look. Even though I'm 3/4" higher in the front it still looks perfectly level.

There is a bit of rake in the truck but that particular picture makes it look more exaggerated than it actually is. The 4.5" does not level the truck. Supposedly the 6.5" sits more level.

 

Katy is actually closer to where I live in Richmond. Either way, I'm more than happy to meet up.

 

I'd listen to what most are saying and get a lift that lowers the front lower control arms. Its essential to make sure everything works in sync. Believe me, I had a hard time justifying 1K for the kit also.

cuban - Is your truck 2WD or 4WD? If 2WD, the install is a breeze. No cutting, no welding, all bolt-on.

There is normally a slight bit of rake, like 1/4"-1/2" but it's easily leveled out by getting a smaller rear block or adjusting coil overs if you have them

im pretty sure that's a glorified leveling kit and not an actual lift kit

So If I bought the 4.5 Zone Lift without adding the AAL or changing the blocks, my truck would still have a slight rake?
