I agree, buy quality inside of junk and love your ride - I have a hard time chopping up a new truck that's all. Your making a couple of assumptions, no I don't design kits, but I do have a mechanical engineering background.

Anyways, my option would be to select the 4 or 6 or 8" kit vs the 4 or 4.5 that does cutting of transfer cases, cross members, etc. That's my main point.I was merely stating the facts for people to make a conscious decision when they go to purchase. Chopping your truck is not ALWAYS necessary - you can look for other options in other quality kits or lift sizes within the same brand.

There are some great trucks on here, I'm not taking away anything from either of them no matter what route they took. keep em coming

Yeah with all do respect I don't think anyone on here needed you to "state those facts" for them. There were many points made in my last comment all having to do with why you'd wanna put a lift on and then take it off to sell it. And while you're still not an engineer, your background should lead you to a more in depth understanding of why the best manufacturers of lift kits do have to cut some things when installing most of their kits. So with that, whatever kit you decide on I hope you enjoy it and it works out well for you so you can post up the finished results for us to see

just curious if anyone recently bought the McGaughy's 7-9" lift. I didn't know if they have fixed the bad bushings I've read in previous posts. it seems like its a hit or miss on the bad bushings one person will say they are shot after 3 weeks others will have absolutely no problems.

Thanks for the suggestions.. the prices though are out of my price range.. If I can find a good kit for $500 or less that's what I'm looking to get.. the rough country kit is better deal than the tuff country kit I was looking at.. I was able to take a pic of the control arm and tested with magnet, so its not the aluminum kind.. but not sure the angle of the picture is good enough to tell if its the stamped or cast one.. ill post in a few..

lol, coming off a little strong there. Not everyone's aware you have to chop up the truck to make some kits fit... I wasn't, until I did some research. I can guarantee you 80%+ of the people lurking these forums aren't aware of that either.

So i have a question, does anyone have pics of their truck or someone elses truck that has the 4" or 6" lift with the stock wheels and tires...basically before the tires and wheel upgrade..

For me when i do the lift, it will be months before i can get the tires to replace the current ones.. so wanted to see what it would look like before i do it.. i know it will look odd, but im willing to live with that if its not super bad..

I mean if it looks like how monster trucks look when they have the small street wheels/tires on it, then i may hold off..

I believe this guy has 18" stockers, stock tires on a 4.5" zone. They stick out even with stock tires

So still reading over the different kits and the RC 5" kit states requires cutting.. is that on the 2WD as well? What am I going to have to cut on the truck?

I would prefer no cutting of anything on the truck..

You will have to cut your rear crossmember to make room for the lower control arm drop bracket. if its 2wd you shouldn't have to do much more trimming, but once you cut the crossmember, your committed haha have to finish and live with the lift at that point. b78cbaaa1b86a808dc9977fc7ab58e8b.jpg

ugh, you're beginning to annoy me, plenty of people have given you advice and there is information that plenty of people even myself have posted on what types of modifications will take place on your vehicle depending on your drivetrain. READ READ READ.

    • Maybe.   Maybe.   I don't want to be the one that needs help and can't get it when I need it. That is a legitimate complaint, and how they respond to those legitimate complaints is a big red flag to me.   I don't care how good the product is their conduct is subpar. Some people are fine supporting that for the sake of getting the product they want. I'm not.   To be fair, I haven't seen or touched their product in person to determine for myself the quality of it. I'm not offering any opinion on that either.
    • So if you do nothing and they act on their threats like death to America or Israel. And possibly a nuclear war. Whoever survives wonders why didn’t they listen? Or we do something like every President has said they can’t get a nuclear weapon. We’re at the 10 yard line and it happens the time is now or never. I think I’m ok with paying a little more for gas for awhile. It’s a shame that we now live in a world that’s so polarized.
    • 4-5-6 fails due to design.  Not enough clutches and not enough piston to clutch surface area.  Also the backing plate can bow.     I'd say converter is two part.  The design of converter chosen, and factory tuning of it aka slipping it in D (also L6) for AFM purposes, as well as locking it up in 2nd gear, sometimes 1st, also it will partially lock up at light loads.  All because CAFE/fuel economy requirements.  A billet converter on the stock tune might hold up better, but would still be subject to the stock tuning and how its designed to lock or partially lock.     The most baffling part to me, is the 2007-2013 6L80s didn't have the failure rate the 2014-2018 ones do.  I've been where I work for almost 17 years now, and I recall maybe 3 or 4 of the 07-13 transmissions getting pulled for something.  14-18 on the other hand, it was at a minimum one a month being opened up.    If I had to guess, I'd say the tuning for the gen 5 engines/6L80 setup and its fuel economy goals had a good bit to do with it.  Also, it was bankruptcy time during these years, so I'm thinking some cost cutting was done for the launch of the K2XX trucks.  See also now the 10 speed valve body issues (more cost cutting).  They blow out some mesh screen in the spacer plate, undersized check ball, and the feed limit valve was aluminum and wears out prematurely.         I don't think it was the HP jump from the gen 4 to gen 5?  The 6.2 in the 07-13 trucks was good for 380-400hp during its life/states of tune, and the 5.3 did 310-320hp.
    • All this might be worth it had we actually recovered enriched uranium, a WMD, or an actual nuclear deal with oversight. This is a flub of epic proportion, and they all know it.   $5.10 at a station reporting $4.99 last week. Here we go....
