if you don't want something too crazy and different than all the other kits go for a 4" lift kit from bds or zone lift kit

The price is the same for the 4" and 6.5 zone kits.. so besides the height difference, why go with the 4"?

Is there a good reason to go with the 4" over the 6.5"

Here is my submission to this thread. Its my 2016 GMC All/Terrain 4x4 6.5" Zone with AAL, 35.4" Duratracs on stock 20" Denali wheels.

I ended up getting some method nv wheels on discount from 4 wheelparts Lol

i did the same :) see if coupon CC5OFF works for you.

I tried the code but it said expired but i can't complain about the price. Now i just have to wait for a good deal on tires. Btw do you have any new updated pics of your ride

Just preference i suppose. I was going to do the 6.5 lift at first but i didn't want to be like every single silverado out on the road. So i went with the 4.5" lift. Plus i wanted to run 35s on the smaller lift cause i like the look of more meatier tires and less gap around the fenders.

 

But to each their own right

personal preference. I used to have a lifted duramax which was pretty high as well as a bunch or other 6" or higher lifted trucks. I still want a lifted truck, but not as high anymore, so at least for me the 4.5" kit is perfect

No bro, honestly i haven't taken pics of my truck since the last ones i took, haven't had time to do much, taking care of my 2 month old is tough work!

I went with the 4 inch BDS for somewhat similar reasons. I wanted to add a little bit of off road capability, while at the same time, keeping the truck somewhat "professional" looking to the average person. I often meet clients at their homes, so I couldn't have a truck that was too neck - though I'll admit, if I wasn't using this truck as my daily driver, I would have gone with a bigger lift.

Good choice. Its lifted but not over done and you can still use it for normal work stuff.

Any contraindications for towing a travel trailer and one of these 4-6" lifts? I was thinking 1100 lb tongue weight and 7500 lbs is a lot of strain and drop shank.

So let me get this straight. I have noticed that some of you have got the 4.5 zone lift and the fronts have raised more than 4.5 inches. Some almost as high as 6 to level out with the rears. This worries me as I only have 7 inches from the top of the onstar to the bottom of garage door. Once I do this lift and add 35s, I'm afraid it's not fitting in garage. Am I understanding this correctly?

I did the 6" BDS on 35s and I think my truck increased 8" overall when measured to the XM antenna. It measures 82" now and fits under 7ft garages with 2 inches to spare. As a word of caution, not all 7' garages are actually 7' tall in all places. Drive cautiously through parking structures.

      Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.

      Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....

      Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.

      Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
