Can someone make a step by step tutorial with pics or video showing how to do this? I am sure there are alot of us who are interested in this but need a little more explaination on how exactly to do this (what to cut and where mostly) before we take the plunge.

Thanks!

This was for my 2013 5.3L

1) remove engine cover.

2) Look to driver's side rear of valve cover. You will see PCV tube leading into an orifice there. There is a lever on the tube lip where it attaches. Slide the lever and remove line from orifice.

3) This line is a flexible plastic tube that leads to the top of the intake manifold. I cut the tube approximately 5-6" from where it leads into the intake manifold.

4) Attach 3/8" fuel line quality hose to the valve cover orifice and clamp with hose clamp. The hose you connect here will lead to the inlet of the catch can.

5) You will need to determine where you want your catch can mounted on the driver's side of the compartment to determine how much hose you need. make sure and use clamps on the hose at the catch can to avoid any possibilities of leakage.

6) run hose from the catch can to the tube you cut that is still in the intake manifold. The tubing will fit (very snuggly) inside the 3/8" hose. After you insert the tube into the hose at least a couple of inches, then use clamp to hold securely. Do not over tighten to avoid risk of collapsing the tube inside the hose.

That is all there is to it. Clean, simple install. The most difficult part is probably determining where you want the catch can and mounting it to that location. Keep in mind, you have to drain it occasionally, so make sure that you have it mounted where you can service it regularly.

I didn't take pics as I did the job, probably because I thought it was a very simple install that didn't require much mechanical aptitude, but I do have a series of pics of the finished job. Send me a PM with a contact email and I will email them to anyone.

Hey thanks! I am going to seafoam the intake through the brake boost line and then install one of these. I am considering mounting it either onto the exposed bolt that sticks out of the firewall on the master cylinder or under the driver side fender support in the rear driver side corner of the engine bay.

My truck only has 11,000 miles so I am hoping I am adding this catch can early enough. I am going back and fourth between the mike norris can or the REV RX can. I am going to call both of them tomorrow and see which supplier I like better. The norris can is cheaper and smaller but the rev-rx can looks like a better design.

Thanks for your help!

Ok guys well I installed my catch can today! I went with the mike norris unit due to the low price, smaller size and mount that comes with it. I decided to mount the can to the alternator bracket by drilling a small hole and then running a 1/4 - 20 bolt through it. I tried to use the existing drilled and tapped holes in the bracket but my bolts broke off after only threading in about a quarter inch. In this pic, you can see the overall set up of mine very well.

And here is the completed install, dont worry, the can is plenty far away enough from the power steering cap and serpentine belt. The job is clean and neat looking, I am happy!

Fantastic job! Looks great! Looking forward to knowing how well it does and amount it catches over time.

Nice

I went to pickup a mike Norris can on friday but he was out of town at a race in Michigan. Have to go back Monday.

Just a heads up, when I called Mike last week, he said he didn't have any cans in his shop right now and suggested I order from www.ws6project.com, it was $2 cheaper than direct from him and includes insured shipping.

Also, for anyone wondering, I used exactly 6 feet of Gates Barricade Greenshield fuel hose that I got from napa. I am probably going to be checking the tightness of all the hardware for the job next week, I am even considering undoing all the hardware and applying blue locktite to everything. The mike norris mount only uses a small allen head set screw to hold the can in place, I dont want it backing out.

Overall, I am very happy with the job. I wish I could have used those pre-existing bolt holes but hey, drilling a small hole was no big deal, the job only took me 30 mins, even with those mishaps in the beginning. I do recommend doing this job for our trucks, it is easy and cheap insurance against a potentially large and expensive, major repair. I only have the 4.8L which doesn't seem to have to the oil burning problem as much but I am excited to see how much this thing catches in a few weeks!

Last I talked to mike he had a stock pile coming in or in for camaro5 Fest here in town this coming weekend. I will find out if he for sure has one tomorrow morning

If I may muddy the waters a little. I came across this site today.......

http://www.conceptualpolymer.com/new_page_1.htm

There was a detailed analysis of reasoning behind using catch cans and an analysis of various catch can designs here.....

If nothing else, this is an interesting read and many might find it useful. I did seem to notice, that the catch cans offered at this site are improved variations on the Jegs separator unit. I am sure this will muddy the water somewhat for some folks, but if might help some folks make a more informed choice on what they want to do. Nothing like stirring the pot a little, right?

No mud for me, I read that a few weeks ago during my research on catch cans. The author seems to have a good grasp of what is happening with a catch can system and It is a good read. That paper also confirmed some of my ideas about catch cans and it is why I chose to mount the can on the front of the engine, in the position it is in. It gets air flow from both the grill and the electric fan, keeping it cool and allowing it hopefully catch more oil. The can is placed lower than the intake tube but about level with the PCV orafice so that oil will more easily be drawn into the can but would have to climb uphill, against gravity, to get back into the intake. I also put a bead of silicone grease around the O-rings in the can to help it make a better seal and condition the O-rings for long life through the high and low temperatures.

This is excellently thought out and executed. Would you mind posting pics of the details of where exactly you drilled to attach it to the alt bracket ares. That would be a big help for . Thanks for sharing such a clean install.
