So does anyone make a kit for the silverado? I like the looks of the one Ryan has, but I like how you can see the level on cowpies. I just dont want to zip tie something up.

There is really not a kit. The catch can should have fittings installed already, if you purchase one that is designed to be a catch can. Then all you need is rubber tubing in whatever length required to mount it where you'd like. Plus a few hose clamps. The catch cans I've seen and used have already had a mounting bracket included.

Who says you have to zip tie anything? Just because I decided to zip tie it doesn't mean you have to. It comes with a small bracket to fix mount if you choose to. Mine is just an example and how I did it. Do it the way you want to do it. I have no aspirations that everyone is going to follow me like I'm the pied piper. Make the setup your own and take pride in your own setup. My primary motivation for even mentioning this is to show folks that they should seriously consider doing something about that oil in the PCV gasses.

 

As the Moderator stated.....You don't need a "kit". All you need is a catch can some 3/8" fuel or PCV rated hose, and some clamps. Whose catch can you use is irrelevant. I tried the Jegs 52205 unit because it was simple, took up little space, and was inexpensive. It includes the catch can, the nipple connections to it, and a mounting bracket. I may or may not stick with it. I have my eyes on a couple of other units if this one doesn't do well over the long term.

This sounds like a worth project to pursue. However, I have a couple of questions I'd like memebr to respond to.

1. Does this do anyhting to enhance performance or gas mileage?

 

2. I have a K&N kit on my 4.3L engine. The hose from the passenger side valve cover goes to the K&N intake "horn". How would a kit be hooked up in this circumstance?

I think the jury is still out as to whether the PCV setup actually improves performance or MPG. The primary motivation is to keep the intake clean. But, there has been quite a few comments elsewhere that, the oil getting into the intake actually can lower the octane level of the fuel in combustion, and that there is a definite risk that the ECM reverts to the low octane setting and retards the timing, thereby causing lower power and MPG. If the PCV does anything, it would seem to just remove the oil and allow the engine to operate the way it was supposed to. You can find some discussions regarding this in the high performance forums for Vettes, Mustangs, etc.

 

You would not mess with the passenger side in any way. The Driver's side is the only hose you need to put the oil catch in. The passenger side is clean air going to the crankcase. The driver's side is the nasty stuff from the crankcase going to the intake.

Looks like a great setup! I will use the Jegs version for a while, but if it doesn't do as well as I think it should, I have a couple of other cans I am looking at to replace the Jegs. So far, the Jegs unit is doing a very good job. That is the beauty of doing stuff like this, we have a lot of options available.

Yes, the company is called Elite Engineering, and they market this can for Camaros and Corvettes, but anything with this style of engine can use it. It comes with an aluminum bracket. It was pretty pricey, over $150.....

Why would it? You're filtering crankcase air.

 

Besides it only takes about 2 minutes to restore to OEM setup

You'd think it wouldn't... But it is technically modifying the factory setup. So who knows. I am interested in this mod, so I had to ask.
