• Has anyone cut into their factory drop in liner in order to take advantage of the upper tie downs?

My new 2014 crew cab has the factory installed movable tie-downs. I just ordered a BedRug and will be installing it myself.

 

I wonder what is the best way to deal with the installation around the tie downs and the other locations where you might possible move the tie-down too? Thanks.

Mine is the BedTred liner by BedRug. I used a very sharp knife to cut a hole in the liner the same size as the supplied hole in the bedside for the 4 GM tie downs. I am considering buying another set and adding them to the middle holes too.

Mine is going in Friday for Line-x. They're going to mask off the bed plugs so I can put retractable bullring hooks in the bed.

I have had drop in bed liners, bed mats, and spray in bed liners. My last truck I used Rhino spray in and after eleven years it still looked good. It had faded some but not bad. The drop in liners sanded down the pain under it until it looked worse than it would have without a bed liner. Plus anything you put in there had to be tied down or it would slide around the bed.

 

I don't understand about the worry about sanding the bed to installing the Rhino or Line X spray in liners as it's covered up by the liner material anyway. It's not like your going to take it out. Yes it's a bit harder to clean because of the texture but that's the price you pay for the added protection and grip. Covering up everything when spraying is not an issue if you tell them what not to spray. I had mine done within a week after I took delivery. I don't plan on covering the bed as I do use it some but not commercially. I installed my old tool box to keep small stuff in.

 

Now all I need is for the weather to get nicer so I can wax it up and look new again.

I went with the Dual Liner.

 

I have 4 Dee Zee after market upper tie downs in the rear and mid positions. Tool box is covering the other positions. The Dual liner only has 4 holes cut for the tie downs, in the front and rear positions, but the other positions have concave areas in the liner so they are already marked if you want to cut them out. I cut out the mid positions with a dremel and cleaned it up with sandpaper.

 

The tailgate cover uses 8 factory screw holes and says to drill a hole in each bottom corner. I didn't want to drill into my new tailgate so I used some 3M auto tape instead, it holds it tight and I think it will last.

 

BTW, I have a drop in liner in my 1997 Chevy w/t, been in there since the truck was new, now has 180K miles, always parked outside, plenty of Illinois road salt and rain, paint is worn but no rust inside the bed.

Went with a bedrug as well. Main reason, this truck is replacing my suburban, I'm putting a A.R.E. Z-Series cap on it and I don't see the need for either a spray-on or drop-in.

 

And even if I did keep the bed in an open state, I wouldn't really worry about the inside of the bed. It's just the inside of truck bed, it's designed to get banged up, chipped and scuffed. On my last truck I put in a rubber bed mat and called it a day.

 

Do you use a tailgate seal with the bed rug and cap to cut down on dust? Or does the bed rug alone do such?

I havent even driven it over 100 miles yet! The bed rug still leaves openings along the vertical parts of the tailgate so I plan on getting a tailgate seal but i'm still waiting for the camper top to come in. Hopefully next week i will get it installed.

 

I had one installed on my 2007 F150 which also had a trifold top and it seemed to worked pretty well.

I have installed the BedRug and the Retrax Pro roll top. Silly me failed to mark the sites of the two larger drain holes on the drivers side and passenger side of the bed before I placed the BedRug and in spite of probing around for 20 minutes with a sharp awl trying to locate the drains I can't find them yet. Could anyone tell me how far back from the front and side the 2 large oval cut drain holes are on a 2014 Sierra six and a half foot bed. I need to locate them to cut out some of the BedRug and place the drain tubes for the ReTrax Pro. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I will try to send pics of this set up once I get some sunlight here.

I installed my drain tubes under the bed rug. Ended up very clean, can't even tell the tubes are there. You should be able to peel back those corners and run yours behind or at least cut the rug for your tube if still running it over the carpet.

I intend to cut holes in the Bed Rug. Problem is, I don't know where to cut them without peeling back the rug from the front of the bed which I wish to avoid if possible. If I knew the locations of the holes I could confirm those dimensions with an awl and make the cuts from the inside of the bed without peeling back the rug to do so. So I am looking for how many inches back from the front and how many inches in from the side to start the process on each of the two large oblong shaped drain holes.

I just installed the bed rug. No issues and went in with no problems. I had an appointment for the spray in lines and it has its purpose. But I do t haul items like I used to and chose to go the rug route. But the tones on and glad to get it done before the rain co es Sunday. I really like the tail gate gap cover that the bed rug has.

Just had Line-x done today on my 2014 Silverado. They did a great job and I really like it. I asked them to remove 4 of the bed plugs so I can add some hooks later which I'm glad I did....they sprayed it all and popped the plugs back in...the olthers they sprayed over which looks nice too. Very happy with the job they did.

I suppose it would be off topic to pose this question in another thread but those who already have a bed liner other than spray ins would also have to make an effort to send the measurements if their drain holes are covered like mine. I hoped to get a reply from someone who is still on the fence about lining the bed who could obtain the dimensions I need with small effort.

Can't the bed drain holes be located from under the bed? Push an awl or sharp finishing nail through the bed rug.

With the dimensions of a truck without the bed rug for the drain holes, you'll be off whatever dimension your bed rug install accounts for, is...thickness of material plus any air gap, etc....

In brief, no. I looked from the bottom but cannot find the drain holes where I expected they would be based on an estimation from my inspecting the bed and drain holes prior to covering them up. I have probed with an awl from the top and if I continue I will eventually find them with an awl. I am trying to avoid poking more holes in order to do that. I have already poked about 50 holes from above to no avail. My memory is not serving me well as to the location of the drain holes I wish to locate.
