First wave of 2014's limited to 2k towing?

I went to the local dealership to test drive a 14 silverado, crew cab 4x4, convenious package. I noticed one of the window stickers had something about 2k max towing. I asked the sales guy about that and he said yea, if you want to tow something heavy the max trailering package is coming out in fall. Is this true? I went to the chvey web site to see if that's the case but all they had was a slider bar that went from 2k - 11k?

 

The test drive was ok, there was a whine/squeaky belt type noise when I accelerated and I wasn't too impressed. But that towing thing kills it for me.

I seriously doubt it. Hell, my Polaris golf cart will tow that much

the 4.3 max towing is 7200#. you can get a 5.3 3.42 right now that tows 9500#. the max trailer pack is orderable on the 19th of this month, it can tow 11,500# with the 5.3 3.73 and the 6.2 should come in at 12000#.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I have the 5.3 3.08 combo and even mine is rated for 7600.

Plus 1 on the salesman being an idiot. I went to 2 GMC and 1 Chevy dealer. The GMC guys were somewhat knowledgable however the Chevy guy had no clue. I was practically telling him about the truck.

The maximum payload is ~2,000 pounds - I'm sure that's where the confusion is coming from

My '98 s10 4cyl daily driver is rated to tow 2000 lbs, no wonder most sales people annoy me. If you're going to sell me a product at least be knowledgeable of it.
