Starbucks Bans Guns

Starbucks announced that they will no longer allow guns to be brought into their stores. How much backlash do you think they wil get? I think they can do as they wish as its still a private business but I think it would have been smarter to just post signs at their stores instead of going on national tv to make the announcement. If I drank coffee I would be going somewhere else though.

My question is so what? If you conceal carry who knows you are armed anyway. I don't think most people walked in with ARs strapped over their shoulder. And there is always dunkin!

DD has better coffee anyway and half the price

Starbucks has not banned guns, the CEO is asking folks not to carry there. Request, not ban. His public letter says exactly that. And this is the fault of open carry people- idiots who somehow think going for coffee with a rifle on their back is fighting for their rights. I'm a NRA life member and I think those people are being foolish. That said, I don't like coffee and regardless, concealed is concealed. Take that however you will. ;)

I just find it funny that by trying to remain "neutral" on the issue, the have actually chosen a side.

They're a Seattle based company. We're not supposed to do politics here so all I'll say is given where the company has its roots this is no surprise to me. Only surprising thing is it took this long for them to come out and say something even remotely committal.

They were forced to state a position because people on both sides of the issue went and forced them to. They said they wanted to remain neutral and not be used as an advocate for or against the issue. Unfortunately when it comes to this topic it's pretty much only for or against. Hopefully that wasn't too political...

Trying to stay non political here. Starbucks has made some other statements that I don't believe in is one reason I don't shop there. The other one is that is way over priced for coffee.

I went today only because I have a gift card. Dunkin donuts is way better I agree but free is good too

Exactly............He just does not want his place of business being a political battleground on a daily basis, you really can't blame him either.

Open carry has it's place and reason, neither of which should be to prove a political point and intentionally cause alarm.

I'm all for guns and totally against open carry. If I walked in any business and saw someone sporting any type of firearm it would make me nervous.

I have no issue with it as a general practice but the "activists" who somehow think strapping a long barrel revolver to their hip or slinging a rifle across their back and going for a stroll down Main Street is somehow going to help is just absurd. Add in how popular it is for the OCer to refuse any basic communication with the officer and we all look like jerks. That said even though OC is legal in Michigan and somewhat more commonplace than other states I keep it under a shirt/jacket. There are times when I'm sure the butt of the pistol prints but most people are clueless enough to think its a phone case or something I'm sure.

Not looking to argue with you but that is a contradicting statement.

You are either for gun rights, or your not. Open carry has it's place and there's nothing wrong with that. There are some places that open carry is the only option if you want a means to protect yourself and your family. I run into open carry people everyday, most people don't even notice they are carrying.

Where it doesn't have it's place is out acting like an immature clown with your buddies to prove a point. Watch some of those YouTube jokers and you will see exactly what I mean. They are very confrontational and uncooperative when someone calls the police. These are the people that give gun owners a bad name IMO.

We live in a world where "active shooter" training is the norm from law enforcement right down to grade schoolers. It's not contradictory IMO to be for gun rights but not agree with open carry. If I walked into Starbucks with my family and saw a guy sipping a macchiato with a rifle across the table I wouldn't be cool with that. I can guarantee you a confrontation would ensue between he and I and eventually many other members of the PD. That's not normal behavior down here in Texas and I wouldn't classify that as normal anywhere in the US. Furthermore I think it's assanine and irresponsible behavior. I'm a gun guy but I'm aware and understand that me in a pair of cargo shorts with a handgun showing is going to alarm people. Particularly people that might shoot my ass for being stupid. My point is that I don't think Starbucks is being unreasonable. I'm sure smokers were plenty pissed when it was decided they couldn't smoke in a resturant, but it's the prerogative of the business. We can't open carry handguns in Texas and I prefer it that way. You can however somewhat freely display a long gun but you better be damn careful where and how you do. It could have end up in jail or dead.
