Developed a new problem yesterday....

So as of yesterday, not always, but more often than not now, when I make a left turn that is 90 degrees or more I get a single pop sound, and can feel it in the steering wheel. If I am just sitting still, and do full radius turns with the wheel, all the way left and then all the way right and back, it will not do it. Only if I am actually driving and turning left. Usually when I am turning into my driveway at home, and today it did it when I need to make a sharp left turn into the drive thru at the bank.

Interesting. Keep us posted. I would take it to the dealer and drive with the tech. Since it sounds like you can recreate it, that usually makes it easier for them to diagnose it.

If I had to guess i would say a faulty ball joint may be to blame. Or something on the steering column that is binding and then popping loose.

Sounds like your tire is hitting something in the wheel well to me. This commonly occurs with oversize wheels or tires. Just a guess, good luck.

Factory wheels and tires so this is not the issue.

I took my truck in and dealer had it for 6 days. Said they found the issue. Something about some loose nut On steering. Picked it up and didn't even get 10 blocks away and it popped/clunked turning left multiple times. Took it straight back to them. They have had it another 4 days now. I have heard nothing yet. Will keep you posted.

My '09 Impala LTZ does something similar when I make a fast speed left turn onto a lower surface, such as turning into a driveway, for example and I brake at the same time. It makes a somewhat loud pop and I feel a shudder in the brake pedal. It feels as if something was binding and then it suddenly popps loose. I have inspected the car for loose nuts and bolts on the chassis, everything seems to be tight, I think it is related to the intermediate steering shaft and rack and pinion type steering or the axles. My '06 Silverado never did this, but that truck still has the recirculating ball type steering found now only on 3/4 and 1 ton new GM trucks.

So tell your dealer that other GM vehicle seem to have that problem too. And we know that crappy intermediate steering shafts are a known problem on many. But I suspect this could also be a bad axle CV joint. I have no vibration problems or other issues, such as clicking noise, which would be indicative of a bad CV joint.

My car only does this very infrequently so I am not concerned. It only happened about 5 or 6 times in 65k miles, and only when I was making a rather sharp left turn and braking, and the road surface sloped downward at the same time.

We'll, 2 trips and two weeks at the dealer. They Says it's fixed, I take it out, immediately making noise again. Getting frustrated with them. 2 weeks and nothing. I took my truck home at this point. Called them and told them it still isn't fixed. Left service manager a voicemail saying drill not fixed. Of course no return call! Very frustrating.

his truck is a 2wd so it doesn't have cv shafts. could be the rack and pinion or ball joints. have you asked them what all they have "fixed" to see what route they are trying to take.

you know what pisses me off. is if your truck wasn't under warranty they would be more than happy to just start throwing parts at the trucks and if those parts don't fix it then they will throw some more parts at it all on your coin. but since these trucks are under gm warranty then they cant throw parts at it and if they do and it doesn't fix the problem then GM wont pay them for the work. such bull shit IMO!

OP GL with the fix.

They haven't replaced anything yet. Both times they said they found a brace loose! Ridiculous!

Is the gm support person on here? Please look into this as I'm tired of being without my truck and it still not fixed.

sounds like a bunch of malarkey!

Whole thing sounds lame to me. Jennifer has offered her assistance, I would take her up on it. It's stories like these that show how important it is to find an honest service department. I would be moving on to another place at this point if at all possible.

So they find a loose nut and stop there. problem not fixed. They find another lose fastener and stop. Why don't they keep going until have inspected the entire drive train in the front and test drive it? ugh!

I'm guessing that a balljoint is bad. Or could be a bad control arm bushing. either way, it sounds like you need to find a new dealer because theyve tried to "fix" your problem several times it appears with no luck.
