I know one thing for sure on my truck, I got under the hood and installed the billet bow tie and damn near every single bolt on the front end was loose. i mean not even finger tight. NOW, I will be checking over the truck. guess someone did not feel like finishing their job at the GM factory.

Unfortunately, all it takes is some lazy guy at the assembly plant not tightening something properly and it can cause all kinds of unpleasant issues and is hard to find. With GM parts now being made mostly in third world countries, you never know what you are going to get. It could be a bad part, such as your steering rack, or something loose or missing in the front suspension. Sometimes the only way to fix a problem like this is to take the whole front end apart and inspect everything and replace all suspension bushings and ball joints as a start.

I am honestly getting fed up with GM Chinese made parts. Case example: The recirculating door HVAC actuator on my '09 Impala started making ratcheting and clicking noises. I bought the part for $ 37 (wholesale dealer cost for the part) and replaced it myself. This fixed the problem. When I took the old part apart I found one of the plastic gears with a broken tooth. The part was made in China. Failure like this seems way too early on this vehicle with 67k miles on it. I had some Japanese cars for 16 years and 200k+ miles and never had any such a failure. Which means that these GM Chinese made parts are cheap junk. Same thing for the power door lock actuators. And door lock actuators are not cheap to buy. Also, some HVAC actuators require more disassembly than the one I replaced and can cost upward of $ 300 per actuator including labor if you cannot do this yourself. We, the customers are getting screwed by corporate greed.

they stopped both times because they said they could no longer replicated the problem. Which is bull, because both times I immediately heard it. i am going to try and post some videos for you guys so you can hear what I am dealing with. If I can figure it out. I can link them. Not sure how to embed. Here you go. All of these was just a drive around the block. And they couldn't replicate the issue????

You can hear the thud in every video. If you watch them all then you know what your listening for in the other videos that you can't hear it as well in.

Wow! They can`t hear that? That is BS. You should find out when the regional manager is going to be around and take him for a ride. Maybe they`ll figure it out then.

I`ve been noticing on my truck that it feels like the steering column is loose. I can take the steering wheel

and move it side to side seems like the whole column has a slight movement. I`m not hearing any noise so not sure what`s going on. Reading about all these fasteners being loose has got me thinking somebody did not

get tightened.

Anybody else noticing this?

have them check the steering wheel coupling to the rack - guy at work had same sound in his Yukon he just purchased during test drive - tech went with him they took it in and the coupling was loose. The dealer knocked more off the deal because of it and he purchased it.

Did you ever resolve the issue? What came of it?

I have the exact same symptoms on my 14 Sierra 4wd, I have added 4" lift and bigger tires.

Loud clunk heard and felt and intermittent binding when turning hard to the left. So, a shop owner friend and I removed the inner tie rod boot and found loose parts, broken parts, metal shavings, something came loose And the steering rack is puking out parts and that is what's causing the noise binding, the loose and broke parts are causing problems with the articulAtion of the rack. More than likely is not caused by the lift cause the tie rods are not being stressed to extreme angles at all. And all the loose broken bushings and metal shavings are on the steering rack side of the tie rod, nothing changed there. Didnt even look at the driver side for damage. Goes to dealer Thursday, needs a new steering rack. And I better not get warranty coverage flack! Anyone else?

Any way you can take a picture of what your talking about? My problems are still very intermittent and dealer can't find issue. Very annoying to say the least.

B1GTED, you need to take it to a different dealer, based on what youve told me and my experience I would almost bet you need a new steering rack. There is a youtube video posted of a guy that had the same problem I had with mine, search 2014 Silverado steering clunk, see if you can relate. It needs to be dug into by a dealer that wants to help, I stopped taking mine to local GMC dealer cause they sucked arse! and took it to local Chevy dealer for the warranty work, they were a big help, GM had the steering gear marked as a priority part (because theyve been replacing many of them) so dealer had to spend quite a bit of time on the phone with an engineer explaining the failure. They wanted evidence the entire steering gear needed replaced because so many of the units have been failing electronically (not needing full replacement) and dealers replacing entire unit when it wasnt warranted. So, suffice it to say- new design, not without problems for sure, I hope this is the last of my problems, I've had the truck 9 months now and only 3000 miles cause of all the shop time.

1. Rattle in headliner, turned out to be a broken sunroof assy., availability, or lack thereof, and GMC dealer idiots ordering wrong part kept it in the shop for over 3 weeks.

2. Power adjustable pedals needed motor replaced.

3. Front end noise in 2 and 4wd (most noticably 4wd) Remains, despite 3 trips to dealer. They say its normal. We'll wait and see.

4. New steering rack, in over a week.

5. Now I have squeaky rear leaf springs, dont really want to take it back but dont want to pay $50,000 for a truck with 3000 miles and have squeaks, noises and rattles either

I would say find a different dealer, tell them about your dissatisfaction with old dealer and see if they'll help. (Or call dealer srvc manager, bitch a bunch, then threaten, if he still wont help, tell him you want GMs number and get them on the horn, bitch some more.) Thats crap! Or wait and do nothing and let it completely fail (possibly leaving you stranded) but then at least your problem will be clear cut even to those dealer fools

I swear I know more about these trucks, and cars in general, than most of these dealerships, from sales to service. Its ridiculous, if I were even close to that incompetent at my job, I'd not have a job anymore.

Anyway, Im going to try and enjoy my truck, and try to forget all my thoughts of how big of a POS it is. I want to love it....

I have the same issue on my 08, I've leveled and recently put on 2014 rotors and pads(maybe first GMT900 in the world to do so :) )

I just have to say that I don't think I've ever read about this many different problems on any other GM truck platform. Why exactly do these trucks cost so much again? Good luck to you OP, I hope they get your problem figured out.

Good to know that the pads and rotors are a direct fit. When my originals are bad, I will go this route.

I got this pop when turning at low speeds(or turning all the way one way at stop) it started this about 2 weeks after, I put on the new rotors and pads. I don't know if its the new rotors/pads or something else wrong with my truck. Dont go putting on these 2014 rotors/pads, I have to find out what my problem is.

Anyone have this issue with their truck? I have seen this problem all over the internet, but no solid answer as to what it could be. I just replaced both CV shafts, and still the same.

    • Hello Guys I'm new to the form,         I just put a 7-inch Rough Country lift on my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3 and I also put a Borla exhaust on it. But I noticed when I'm in park or in neutral and then I rev my truck up really quick there is a bad click noise and I think it's coming from the motor somewhere. Anyways I got a video of it I will attach below I was just wondering if you guys think its rod knock or lifter tick or something like that because I know the AFM kind of made the lifters weak on these trucks.       Thanks!!!!! • We’ll have to agree to disagree. I didn’t experience or know anyone who had a decent car after 100K miles in the 60s through the 80s that were daily commuter vehicles. Unless they were collector vehicles. Of course things cost more due to inflation. But we also make more money. The biggest money drains these days are things people think they need today versus what we require back in the day. Like cell phones and internet as examples. Another example is where you live. Cost of living varies from state to state. I would need twice the money to live in NJ vs Texas in retirement. The car you recently purchased was less than my first car with inflation at 3000$ in 1973. I didn’t have air, electric windows, cruise etc. Purchasing power is equivalent, you just have to do the research.
    • Sierra HD Pro:   - If you want a power driver's seat on the Pro, you can't get it.  You have to go to SLE.   - Factory remote start?  Can't get it on any of the Sierra Pro trim (1500 or HD).  You have to go SLE.     - 7 inch radio has limitations for replacement if you wanted to upgrade the screen, etc.    - Steering wheel radio controls?  Nope.  Can you add them?  Yes.  NOT CHEAP.  Requires a new instrument cluster, steering wheel and wiring harness mod kit.     - Fog lights?  Nope.  And no factory path to install them.    Sierra HD SLE:   - IMO, the larger radio screen is a much better interface.   - Fog lights?  You can get them.  Steering wheel controls?  Has them.  Remote start?  Yep.  Power driver seat?  Available.       Silverado WT:   - Same as the Pro above however you CAN get factory remote start installed at the dealer for the WT Chevy.     Silverado Custom:   - Comes with 20" wheels only.  Can you swap later?  Sure.  But.  Truck is calibrated for the stock 20s (34" tire) and no path to properly recalibrate.     - Power seat?  Yes.   - Steering wheel controls?  Same as the Pro above.  No but can be done and not cheap.     Silverado LT:   - Same as the SLE.  You can get or it comes with many features you can't do on the lower trims.       I'd say its all going to come down to what you NEED and what you WANT to have that you'd benefit from.  For me, things like power seat is a must (I hate the WT/Pro seating position), so I'd have to go Custom, LT or SLE right out of the gate.  Steering wheel controls?  Should be standard in 2026 across the board IMO, so again, puts me to LT or SLE.
    • I have a 1500 but the Custom trim. I bought it solely for the simplicity meaning less electronics. I also love the old school gauges. The only thing that I like about the LT better than my Custom is the front grill. Otherwise, absolutely no regrets choosing this trim.
    • Modifications are required.  2020-2023 the wheel well sheet metal does not have all of the fastener openings stamped for liners that the 2024-2026 dually wells have.  The liners are the right shape and everything, and the wheel well sheet metal is the same shape, its just the older trucks don't have all of the mounting points.     Here's a link to a Facebook post about doing this - https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Nqow8VNKE/
