M&P Shield or Springfield XDs

I've shot the Shield it was a good shooter, haven't shot my other buddy's XDs yet. My best advice would be to shoot them both. Personally, even though I hate glocks, I'd stick with that. You can carry anything with the right gear and wardrobe. My normal carry is either a SR40 or a Security Six and at 5'7" and bordering on slightly fat I have no problems. Even the few friends who know I always have a gun, or two, on me everywhere can't tell when I'm carrying or not and that's carrying OWB.

I have a shield and really like it, alternates between that and my full size xd as to what I carry. Shoot them both and buy a good holster(or 3) and you should be good

I went out shooting Christmas day with my sister and her boyfriend. I have the XDM .40 her boyfriend had a Sig Sauer 9mm not sure of model, and he just bought her a Kimber 1911 .45 and both of their guns feel way nicer than mine. The .45 shot like a dream and the Sig felt awesome in my hand. Now I'm debating on which one to save up for lol

I've got an all stainless Kimber 1911 that shoots like butter. Also have a Sig P938 9mm and its the same way. Also have a couple of Sig P238 380's that are one of my favorites. Doesn't pack the punch of a 40 or 45 but I sure wouldn't want to get hit by one and it's a sweet shooter as well. The 238 is the one I grab when I'm in a hurry to run out the door. Small and easy to conceal when you don't have time to plan what you're wearing.

I have a XDs .45 ACP. Best CCW I have owned when paired with my sticky holster. Find a local gun range and rent one, once you do, you'll buy one. lol

The XDs is a great little CCW. Fired a couple hundred rounds at a training course last week. When and if our LE dealer stocks Springfield pistols, I will definitely be buying one.

ran about 500 rounds through the xds 45 before it got recalled ran another 50 through it after I got it back and sold it as fast as I could, just did not end up liking it as well as any of my other ccw pistols, Kahr P40 covert, Sig ultra carry 45, and glock 36. It was just not a trust your life to it gun in my hands. Soured me on the whole Springfield thing actually will probably steer clear of them for forseeable future

I bought the Shield & love it. I originally planned to buy the XDS but it just didn't feel right in my hand.

I was in the same boat about 2 months ago when I was considering a CCW for my wife. I carry the M&P 40 for work, and the compact version off duty, and love them. The thing that turned me to the XDs 9 was the lack of thumb safety. If you are familiar with thumb safeties, or you're willing to put in the time training on the thumb safety it's not an issue. But, if you are not familiar with thumb safeties, and get caught in an "Oh Shoot" moment you're going to revert to your lowest level of training and will most likely find yourself pulling the trigger and wondering why it won't shoot. Both are good guns and will do what you need it to.

I picked the shield when I came across this same dilema, the Shield was a little lighter, does not have the grip safety, and felt better in my own hands, to me the XD-s was more of a rectangular hard plastic grip rather than formed. I thought the Shield had a slightly better trigger, but I liked the factory sights off the springfield over the S&W.

My Shield was 429 after taxes, the XD-s in my area was 550, not a big deal, but 300+ rounds of target ammo.

The shields thumb safety is very positive, atleast in my example and I leave it off, just another thought for your "Oh shoot" moment.

I have a Shield in .40. Love the gun. I carry a Glock on duty, but the G27 is a bit wide. The shield is a great gun. I carry it with a spare mag in my pocket.
