Shield is just fine. Everybody likes to say they own a Cadillac just because they can. Own SWs from Sigma on up, started with the Sig (inexpensive) and still like it because it feels good in my hand. The *G* guys at the range have all read about the slam on the Sigs and SDs. They don't like to admit, but they confirm they shoot well.

I tell everybody to go shoot everything they can get their hands on before buying. Just too bad you couldn't do a blind taste test? I think people would be surprised in the end.

A gun's a gun if it doesn't jam on you and serve its purpose well when the need arises like a home invasion, armed robbery and car jacking. I was a huge fan of the 1911 pistol but the Glock stole my heart; I'm a big advocate of the pistol.

My father has the shield in .40 and I have a M&P in .45, full size. I'm looking for a new concealed carry to possibly replace my Glock 26. Love the Glock, just looking for something a bit narrower to carry around. Perhaps the M&P compact 9mm.??? Input?

I'm kind of a small framed guy, so when I was looking for a carry gun I got the XDS .45. I absolutely love this gun. Very nice to shoot despite the short barrel. Sits low in the hand so that helps to manage the recoil. But I've never had a problem with .45 recoil anyway. Fell in love with the .45 Auto round when I was in the service.

Springfield XD(M) has S&W beat completely. The XDS itself is a pretty amazing piece. Single stack .45 in a sub-compact - done deal.

 

I am a huge fan of the new XDM line and have shot quite a few. The 3.8" is super accurate for a shorter barrel and recoil is managed quite easily

 

A few weeks ago I ran my Springer 1911 railed operator and the XDM 3.8. While the 1911 was slightly more accurate, I found that the XDM 3.8 was right there with it. Getting back on target after a mag change is easier with the 1911, but you have more rounds in that double-stack XDM.

I was in the same indecision earlier this year. To me they both shoot identical, so it was down to the mechanics and style. For breakdown I much preferred the XD series, very simple. I also like the "safety" if you will. The m&p they had on hand had the physical safety switch. The Springfield only has a grip safety, so you don't have any safety lock to remember when you're in the moment.

Just picked up a little secondary carry. A little S&W 642 38 special+p. I am very impressed with the gun. Less than 15 oz. Fits right in my front pocket and can't even tell its there. Fit and finish is superb. For a second carry or one for your wifes purse, I would definitely recommend this wheel gun.

If you're looking for something really easy to carry, but still super accurate, check out the Sig Sauer P238. I have the SAS model with the custom shop services (full carry melt, trijicon sights, etc.) and absolutely love it. Never gave .380 a thought before this.

I have them both. 9mm shield is a more reliable, easier to handle and conceal firearm. Good luck in your decision.

I carry my M&P Shield every day in a kidex inside the waistband holster and absolutely love it! I installed Tru Glo TFO night sights on mine. Great firearm for everyday carry as well as shooting on the range.
