Hello! I have a 2014 silverado ltz 5.3L and I want to know your opinions on the best exhaust to gain MPG. I don't want my truck to be super loud, I just want a nice low rumble, nothing obnoxious. Suggestions please?

Magnaflow is a good one. That's what I have. And it's not too loud, soft rumble at idle. No drone. Sounds amazing when you hit the gas

The real question is, how much are you willing to spend? There are tons of great systems out there.

Most cat-back systems will have minimal increase in MPG. They are mostly ear candy with very slight HP and TQ increases.

I have the same question. Just bought the truck 2 weeks ago. I 'm new and want to know what others have put on their 5.3l crew truck.

I want something aggressive but just don't want to slap something on to make it loud and drown the engine of air.

I am extremely happy with my GMPP Borla....nice bark outside....very low mild rumble inside under acceleration. No drone!

Fit perfectly...was simple to install....

My truck is almost 2 weeks old too :)

Congrats on the truck! Did you end up removing the resonator and flapper?

The GM Borla exhaust kit comes with the flapper valve. Read thru this thread, what you are asking has already been asked numerous times, I guarantee it will answer your questions, there are a lot of good posts about different exhaust setups, the pros and cons.

Absolutely agree with this....I read this entire thread about 5 times before choosing my exhaust...I even decided against one brand because of posts here about drone and resonance issues.

I decided on the GM part because it has a flapper and bypass pipe the others do not. No drone or resonance so far!

You won't gain any MPG with just an exhaust. Your best hope is to just not lose any.

Its now August of 2014. Theres has to be some new information out there. I have read this thread many times. It does not go into great detail like you say.

What details are you looking for?

The GM/Borla exhaust is the only one with a flapper and bypass pipe to help with drone and resonance issues...

All other cat back systems are a crap shoot as to whether or not you will get any of theses issues. Chambered mufflers seem to be worse in this department...but that isn't in stone.

Drone and resonance are something of a personal taste nature...what your ears find pleasing or not....some don't mind it and others hate it.

So your not interested in GM Borla, Borla, Corsa, AFE, Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Flo~Pro, muffler delete, flapper delete, resonator delete, ARH headers, etc.......What are you looking for then. Catbacks are mainly just ear candy with very limited HP and TQ gains. If you want particular numbers go to the manufactures website and they are always willing to provide you with their numbers. As for MPG gains, It will be minimal, you will be lucky to see any at all.

Don't really care about gaining 2 MPG. So far I have been leaning to that Corsa Sport. Just want something aggressive. I don't care about drone. Honestly think people make a big deal over nothing. If you don't want it loud don't put it on.

Torque gains with an exhaust? Think you have me mixed up with the other poster.

Yes, I did say torque. Some manufactures claim that you will gain HP and TQ.

For example: This is what corsa says about their exhaust for the 2014 Tundra

Tips: Single Side Exit Twin 4.0" Polished Pro-Series
Sound: Sport (CLICK TO LEARN MORE)
Flow: Average of 16% gain over stock
Power Gains: Average increase of up to 3 HP and 9 TQ
Technology: CORSA's Patented RSC® Technology is designed for an AGGRESSIVE SOUND under acceleration and a DRONE-FREE EXPERIENCE during cruise. Every system is engineered specifically to each vehicle without drone while cruising.
I'm not saying I agree but Magnaflow claims TQ gains on the 2014 Silverado with this exhaust

    • On my wife's 2020 Blazer (~69000 miles), we started to notice the brakes pulsating at faster speeds. Typically around town you don't notice anything, but highway/interstate driving you will notice it. I decided to pull of the front tires and look at the brakes. I figured with the milage, the pads should be wearing out to their life span, but they actually looked decent. Still with "meat" on them. One pad has a ridge wearing in it, and that same rotor is showing the ridge too. That's not the concerning part...the other rotor appears to have a raised bump on it!  The picture make it look like a pimple! Very odd and strange! NOTE: These are the factory brakes and rotors.   I'm attaching pictures of the front brakes and what they look like ate ~69000 miles.
    • 2024 Chevrolet 2500 HD Custom 6.6 Gas Canadian built Truck  I tried to search for my previous thread on this topic but cant find it so my apoligies  for starting another one    #1   Since we have owned our truck purchased new it has this strange noise after using the remote start function  you press the remote start and you hear it start but right at the end of it starting it almost seems like it wants to start again after the truck is running .   There is no gap in time it is right at the end of the start . Almost sounds like when you have started a car/truck and its running and then you try and start it again and you get that grinding noise ,sort of     #2  You can only hear this if you are standing outside of the truck and near the truck  you cant hear it when you start the truck from inside  the cab . So it may very well be happening when starting the truck that way as in normally    #3   This only happens when it is started after sitting . For how long I don't know but it happens after sitting overnight for sure and it wont do it if you stop the engine after starting and then start it again  I have had it in to the Dealership before concerning this but they did not have the truck  when it was cold to hear it . Now its back in the Dealership left it overnight so they could possibly hear the problem . They said they tried and nothing happened . Well they did not know what they were listening for . I started the truck remotely and BINGO it makes the noise . Oh that sounds weird they say . We need to look into it ! I have left for this week at the Dealership    Does your 2024 2500 HD gas do this ?  Any of you fellas care to take the time and trouble to film this operation from a cold start  so I can hear what your sound like  Really  would like to know if this is anormal sound  Thank You Fellas !!
    • 2026 Z71.  The other day I was backing a trailer into the barn.  The alarm was going off just because the trailer was in the field of the warning sensors when you get too close to something.  For some reason now the warning alarm doesn't work anymore.  It used to go off when I was just normally backing my truck into garage.  I still have the guidelines in the back up camera.  Is there a button or something to push to turn the sound/Alarm on and off?  I have the touch screen in this truck.  There isn't a "P" on the dash except for the parking brake.  I can't find anything in the touch screen under settings or vehicle.  Thank you in advance.
    • Well one of our most reliable vehicles was sold yesterday. The first and only I gave for free to a grandkid. If they got skin in the game they take care of it. My wife bought new. Five years later my daughter got it to use. We got it back and gave it to our grandson after graduation. He did zero maintenance just oil changes. When the AC quit he drove his mother’s car rather than get it fixed. Instead he just bought a beater and sold the Elantra.
    • I usually do as well or better than the sticker for mileage. Usually better going west than east. North then South. Wind makes a difference. I’m not usually a conspiracy theorist. But it did dawn on me I’m going by the vehicle calculation. Now that would be interesting.
