Thanks Chris! I appreciate it. I put a Trifecta tonneau cover on and an 8" antenna since these pics were taken and I've got an appointment to have the windows tinted on Friday. Trying to decide if I want to put in a Bedrug or have a spray in liner done.

Hi guys, new member here but I've been lurking around for a while. Some great looking trucks on this thread and some really good info. I just picked up a new 18 GMC and took it straight to the garage to get it lowered. I've used Mcgaughys parts on my previous trucks, and while I liked them when I finally got them dialed in, I was really disappointed in the lack of instructions and support. Honestly, on my 14 Silverado, my mechanic buddy and I  just had to figure it out and make it work. Turned out looking great in the end but it did have a vibration that we never could get fixed. For the new truck I called BellTech and decided on the 1012SP kit and to go with a 4/6 drop. My last truck was 5/7 which looked great, but it was really too low for a daily driver on the roads around here. The BellTech kit was pretty straightforward to install and the included directions were excellent. I had a couple questions during the install but called BellTech and talked to John on their tech support line and he helped me through them very quickly. He was great to talk to and very knowledgeable. I think it turned out killer and it rides way better than it did stock. Sorry for the crappy pics, I'll post some better ones this weekend. I've still got a few things to do to finish it, but I'm super happy so far.

Great looking truck! I almost pulled the trigger on the 1012sp myself but decided to go with Mcgaughys.

You're looking for a soft roll up right?

Thanks for the compliments guys, I appreciate it. I'm having fun with this thing. Nasty, here's a picture of the same tonneau on my 14 Silverado. It's made by Extang and it's the Trifecta 2.0. I've used them on all my trucks. They don't sit flush and I'm sure there are more stylish ones out there, but I've had good luck with these and they are easy on and off which is a plus for me.

Sirenred, Thanks! Your Mcgaughys kit will work out great, I never had any problems with mine. Just wanted to try something different.

I got the TonnoPro LoRoll for $240 shipped from Autoanything. Got 18 months ago and I'm very pleased with it. I'll get you some pictures after work.

What do you think is the main reason why it rides better than stock? Are the shocks alone responsible for this or the entire kit working together. How's the ride quality compared to your old Mcgauheys or is that not a fair comparison as that was a different truck?

Thanx,

Are any of you lowered guys losing any turning radius if so how much?

Krunch, Both my  trucks rode stiff and pretty rough from the factory. I assume they set them up to handle a heavy payload with the bed full. I'm no engineer but I would think the better ride with the lowering kits is a result of the whole thing working together. I'm sure there are people that can answer this question better than I, but I can assure you my truck rides much better than it did when I drove it off the lot. Some of it may be in the tires as well. The BellTech rides better, but it's also not as low as I went with the Mcgaughys so that's probably not a fair comparison. Hope this helps. Sirenred, I have noticed a loss of turning radius on either of mine, but I also didn't drive them stock for very long so maybe that's why I don't see the difference.

That does help me. My 2016 extended 4X4 I just bought is technically a "WT" - "Work Truck" and to me it's tight as F%&K! This is the first truck I have ever owned but I don't think I have ridden in a truck this rough before. I'm trying to quit smoking and i'm afraid i'm going to smash my teeth out on my vape pen just driving around town!

    • On 2021 3500hd it consistently sets automatically when selecting park if the incline/decline is above a certain angle.
    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
