Hey everyone,

New member, and doing research on lowering my 2016 double cab 4WD. There's a lot of interesting info here but seems to be geared more to the 2WD guys. I am hearing from a couple friends that I have limited options when lowering because I am 4WD. I'm not really sure how low I want to go but it won't be extreme. I have looked at many pictures and different "kits" and all I know is I want to be between 2/4 and 4/6. Maybe 3/5? I have looked at a bunch of pictures and sometimes two different brand kits, with the same drop, look different to me. If possible, the adjust-ability factor on a kit would be preferred so I can tweak the height a bit once I can actually see it installed on my truck.

The second thing I would like to accomplish (hoping it goes hand-in-hand with lowering) is to mush up the suspension... probably a lot! I'm a car guy and like the ride cars have. We decided on a truck instead of a trailer for the car that would tow my (less than 500lb) motorcycle, and a bit of lumber here and there. I doubt there will be ever more than 500lbs in this truck and if there is, it won't be for a very long time or distance.

Suggestions for kits, or choosing individual parts to make a great kit would be appreciated.

Thanx,

Krunch

I have the belltech 4/6 drop on my regular cab z71. The Mcgaughys kit is great too.

Both kits use 2" drop spindles and 2" drop shocks in the front, and an up to 7" flip kit for the rear.

I'm running 4/6 also, but I'm using the mcgaughys spindles and rear flip then added 2"lower springs up front. Still rides like a truck, but from a performance standpoint, a stiff ride isn't necessarily a bad thing. 87f223a1e97edd91f3b3664c6300e943.jpg

Thanx guys! Trucks look sharp! Are all of you guys 4WD? I checked the McGaugys site and the only kit I see for my 4WD is 2/4?

http://mcgaughys.com/t/2014-2016-truck-12-ton

WRT the ride quality, I do indeed like handling, but if I can't soften up the ride on this truck I might have to look into one of those air ride seats that the semis have. I'm getting thrown all over the place on local streets and I'm sure I can feel every crack in the highway at highway speed on a road that is visibly smooth. Is my problem related to my truck being a WT?

You can use 4wd drop spindles and drop struts in front and flip kit with lift hanger and drop shackle in the rear

This is what I did. Used that kit you referred to, but also used 2" springs to bring the front down to 4" and set the rear flip at 6"

Hi guys, new member here but I've been lurking around for a while. Some great looking trucks on this thread and some really good info. I just picked up a new 18 GMC and took it straight to the garage to get it lowered. I've used Mcgaughys parts on my previous trucks, and while I liked them when I finally got them dialed in, I was really disappointed in the lack of instructions and support. Honestly, on my 14 Silverado, my mechanic buddy and I  just had to figure it out and make it work. Turned out looking great in the end but it did have a vibration that we never could get fixed. For the new truck I called BellTech and decided on the 1012SP kit and to go with a 4/6 drop. My last truck was 5/7 which looked great, but it was really too low for a daily driver on the roads around here. The BellTech kit was pretty straightforward to install and the included directions were excellent. I had a couple questions during the install but called BellTech and talked to John on their tech support line and he helped me through them very quickly. He was great to talk to and very knowledgeable. I think it turned out killer and it rides way better than it did stock. Sorry for the crappy pics, I'll post some better ones this weekend. I've still got a few things to do to finish it, but I'm super happy so far.

    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
