Finally Bought my 2014 Silverado LTZ Z71...my experience

As I mentioned in some earlier threads i've been searching for a 2014 Silverado and now my search is over. I've finally pulled the trigger and put a deposit down on a 2014 Crew Cab LTZ Z71 Silverado late this afternoon and sold my 2007 Toyota Tacoma for $21K. I've been looking at both the Silverado and Sierra since August, but only since about last month really dedicated my efforts in looking. After deciding I like the looks of the Silverado better, I started with my local dealer, Al Serra Chevrolet, they ddin't have anything on their lot that met my wants ( 20 in Wheels, Silver, Sunroof, Power Sliding rear window, Heated/Cooled black leather seats, 3.42 gears, Integrated Trailer Brake, LTZ plus package and no Navigation or Drivers Alert), nor did a search in the whole state generate a match. Trucks were either the wrong color, didn't have the Sliding Rear, or the sunroof, or both, and especially were priced down with a lot of unwanted add on's...6 in Chrome Side Steps, polished exhaust Tip...which all dealers refused to remove and discount the price. Al Serra offered me the option to special order a Silverado, optioned exactly how I wanted, but found the best price I could get from them was $150 over supplier discount and any applicable rebates at the time of delivery. I'm military, active duty Air Force and GM's military rebate is essentially Supplier Discount. I tried the Costco membership route and found out to that they give you suppliers pricing as well.

Anyways, I then focused my search on Cars.com on neighboring states with all my requirements and found a truck in Kansas at Lubbers Chevy. After back and forth the truck which stickered at $51,255, they would sell to me for $44,271. I passed on this one, because it was missing one key item, the 3.42 gears, instead it had the 3.08 which only gives a tow capacity of 6,600 pounds and would struggle around the mountains here in Colorado. Finally I found a truck that matched every criteria with the exception of the Drivers Alert. The truck stickered at $49,855 and had the old MSRP before GM jacked the prices up $2K in October. Suppliers Price on th truck is $46,324.00 and I qualify for $3500 in rebates. A lot of back and forth, but we finally agreed to $42K out the door, plus the dealer threw in the drop in bed and tailgate liner (which I will remove and have Line-X'd) and the all weather mats (which will be replaced with WeatherTech's). With that I am close to $1000 under Suppliers Pricing plus rebates of $3,500...maybe not the best killer deal, and I'm sure have got better but one I am happy with.

We went back and forth today over final price because GM won't let you use a Special Private offer discount of $1K combined with my USAA offer of $750. Based on some feedback here about Special Orders and that you can get the same deal as one on the lot, I asked about Special ordering....I spent an hour back and forth texting and calling my sales guy at Fayetteville Chevy, and the Sales Manager would only give me Suppliers Pricing and would not budge if I special ordered as I expected they wouldn't so I pulled the trigger once the buyer for my Tacoma told me he was a go.

Some of the websites I found which helped me in my search:

Cars.com

www.gmsuppliersdiscount.com

www.gmfamilyfirst.com

With that I feel like I lost a good friend with the selling of my Tacoma, I bought it new and had it for just over 7 years, it was a great truck...never left me stranded or gave me a lick of trouble...plus the resale value is unbeatable, but I needed something with more cabin space with 2 young girls in car seats in the back. I fly out to Fayetteville Arkansas tomorrow and if all checks out, will have 600 miles of open road to learn to love my new Chevy and hopefully cross my fingers have no major bitches gripes and/or complaints. I will say, even with some of the perceived negative posting on here, this place is like a breath of fresh air compared to the Tacoma forums I frequented....let's just say the group here seems more mature.

Thanks for all the inputs.

Hey - Congratulations! I'm jealous that I couldn't look forward to a 600 mile trip right after I bought mine. I can't find enough places to drive! Good luck and have fun!

Congrats man. I'm hoping I'll be picking one up soon myself. Safe travels on the way back!

Hey guys just found this... There is a GMC dealer in Chicago Laura Buick Gmc. They have a Denali discounted $8,400.00 off MSRP and some other great deals....check it out if your looking. http://www.laurabuickgmc.com/VehicleSearchResults?pageContext=VehicleSearch&search=new&bodyType=TRUCK&make=GMC&model=Sierra+1500&trim=All&stockOrVIN=&minPrice=-2147483648&maxPrice=2147483647&minYear=2013&maxYear=2147483647&minMPG=-2147483648&maxMPG=2147483647

They have an SLT at over $9,000.00 off MSRP. I've never seen prices that cheap, figure's already ordered mine. It would pay to fly out there if it's legit.

Those prices seem too good to be true.... saw a lifted SLE z71 Crew Cab 4x4 for 38?

Yeah, I emailed them they have a ton of trucks. I found them through an ad on TV, think it was realcars.com. They get you deals like that before you walk in the dealerships.

Congratulations Steve, enjoy the ride home. I have done a similar thing in the past for 365 miles. It is a great bonding experience with a new vehicle. Enjoy, and have a safe trip.

I need to meet whomever you sold that Tacoma to, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'm looking to sell! I understand they're reliable and all, but paying $21,000 for a 7 year old V6 small pickup you could buy brand new for $30,000 is damn near insane.

Congrats on the new truck, you definitely got a better deal than me!

Insane i know, the tacoma has the 3rd best resale value of all cars behind the FJ Cruiser and 4 Runner. Here in Colorado Tacomas, Jeeps and Subarus are highly sought.
