Gun holster / mount

Interesting thread. I'll be getting my concealed carry permit for Illinois in the near future. I remember seeing somewhere though a safe that fit in the center console. This would be helpful when I didnt want to take the gun into the grocery store or a building that didn't allow concealed carry.

Anyone know what Im talking about?

Here is a company in Boerne, Tx. Grassburr, Have seen these at the gun show. You can put mounts in various rides and then move gun/holster from ride to ride. You can mount under dash top mount or side mount to console.

For some reason cannot paste link, just go to grassburr.com and look for mounted holsters.

Also most self defense guys say map pocket ok for casual storage/carry but if faced with a car jack etc. reaching towards the bad guy is not good. Gun needs to come from left hip or console/right side area. They also tell me if you shoot thru the glass window, to place the muzzle against the glass. Happiness is a warm gun they say.

Also they tell me if it can be seen by a casual look in the window it is not concealed to the letter of the law. So map pocket could cause a problem if you get a LEO wanting to get in your case for some reason. That is why they offer the mounted gun rug.

Either way if you do not carry on person (difficult in warm weather here) the console safe also made in San Antonio is a must. When I go to Bass pro or Cabelas or academy sports, I try to have nothing of value in the truck.

Fondupot: I try my best to not frequent any place that does not allow lawful concealed carry. In my mind, Such places are just a shooting range for bad guys.

I don't carry in my truck, don't have a need. In the small small chance I were to get carjacked, I'd rather they take the truck and use the good insurance I pay for...I'd rather not risk getting myself or my wife shot.

That being said, if some dumbass comes up on me without a gun, he's going to get a head full of bumps from the billy club in the lower right map pocket. If I can't fight with that, its a fight I'd rather step away from.

If I'm heading to the range or hunting, I keep most of my guns under the rear seat locked with a cable lock... I don't lock up my shotgun typically.

My house is a different story... If you come in when you're not supposed to the first thing you're getting in your eyes is 550 lumens from a surefire tac-light if that doesn't scare/blind you enough the next thing you're getting is a bunch of pellets coming your way...

In home defense:

Shotguns >>> Handguns

In all defense:

Tac-light >>> laser sight

Shotguns are good home defense weapons if you live in a barn or an absolute sh*thole, but I'm all set w/ getting brains/guts/skull fragments/buck shot all over my damn house IF I were to ever use it. 1911 .45, S&W M&P .40 compact w/ laser/light, or AR15 .223 are my bedside friends...that's after my dobie greets the intruder w/ her best manners...

For anyone that carries check this console safe outhttp://www.mobilesecurityplusstore.com/Console_Safe_2014_Chevrolet_Silverado_GMC_Sierra_p/ld2040.htm It fits like a dream and is extremely easy to install. Much better than using the glove box, which isn't big enough for some guns.
Those are awesome for storage but if you need to get your gun in a hurry it's not so great

I'm taking about the map pockets on the center console by your right leg when you're the drivers seat. You can get to it without leaning towards the bad guy and it's easily accessible. I have a concealed carry license so i could care less if the law can see it or not...

Me too, Open carry here in Oklahoma. I normally strap a shoulder holster on with the Glock 27 in it.

^^ What I said, If they can see the gun it is not considered concealed. CCL or not. LEO s can get on that if they want.

No open carry here in Texas. You can actually get in trouble if your weapon is visible in a vehicle. So I keep mine on me, except for long trips. On long trips I'll drop it down into the pocket on the door, or right underneath the flip-up console.

The vast majority of people don't shoot their guns enough to place effective shots, and most NEVER practice in situations that truly mimic real situations where blood pressure & adrenaline are elevated.

Just because a person can plink a target at 25 yards in a standing position all day long, doesn't mean they'll have their wits about them when that target is an intruder breaking in at 3 in the morning.

Which on is really your bedside friend? Which one have you practiced going for? Muscle memory is key.

My Remington 870 is the gun I'm most comfortable with, most familiar with, and have the most practice hitting things with. Plus the sound of a pump will scare most intruders before the light will. I'm far more likely to defend my home with that than I am my 1911. And in the scenario of having to shoot someone, even a bad guy, the last thing I care about is the possibility of 2 or 3 of the 16 pellets going into the dry wall, spackling is easy - Plus, I'll be aiming for the vitals - so no worries about pesky brain fragments.

There is a good blog out there (can I name blogs?) that is run by former SEAL/RANGERS/Military guys and they talk a lot about self defense (guns & otherwise) and emergency prep. Makes you think twice about your abilities when these guys question theirs. They also talk about how bad guys take more than one round, even with a .45, unless its a perfect head shot they'll keep coming...good luck landing a perfect shoot under stress.

^^ Do Many folks open carry in Oklahoma?

Typically only in places of buisness were gun are welcome. Kind of like a deterent. I know my title say FL but that us due to my service my wife and I are both from Oklahoma. The main reason for open carry in Oklahoma was because the accidental reveals or printing had a pretty stiff penalty as well as some cop taking it to far. Now when concealing if you squat down at walmart to get something off the bottom shelf and a portion of your gun shows it is ok.

    • Are you going to take long trips in it?  If so, try out the seats in the various trims. For me the lower trim level seats were not comfortable.
    • I have a 2016 that I bought new and still own. I'm around 129,000 miles now. The biggest problem was a transmission failure about 2 years ago around 95000 miles. No warning, just failed while driving down a back road. A reman GM transmission installed and it's been fine ever since. A few other minor problems along the way. I am in no hurry to replace it. It's been paid off long ago and do plan on driving this as long as I can.   I will admit I am leery about all the additional electronics in the newer models and feel that it is just more potential problems. I think there's actually more than I would have wanted in this 2016 but so far so good. I think even if something major like lifter failure happened, it would still be cheaper to at worst, drop a new engine in than buy a new vehicle.
    • I’ve own several successful businesses. I’ve bought homes and lived in different states. I’d witness several generations buy homes and survive in different economic circumstances. You get awful sippy when people have different experiences than you do. You live a life. I’ve lived a life. It seems our experience has been different. You can point out generalized statistics. Some people learn how to thrive when the odds are against them. Living in different states does make a difference in a persons quality of life and economic outcomes and opportunities. That’s a fact Jack. It’s my truth, my life. Hard work and long hours the right environment made my families life easier. And yes moving to a different state increased the odds of that happening. Stats are generalized. People who thrive don’t make excuses. They beat the odds. Others get mad and point to those statistics. I guess that’s you. My post pointed out how you helped people beat the odds. Somehow your panties got in a wad. Go figure.
    • Good question, I don't remember for sure but I believe it was the HD. I will check and get back to you.
    • Point of the post sir was that while both wages and cost are rising EVERYWHERE; the cost is rising faster EVERYWHERE than the ability to buy EVERYWHERE. We're not going down the location rabbit hole. I'm aware of what economic migration is. I've lived in four states including Texas.   It's what "Purchasing Power" means.   I'm not telling you what I think.
