Gun holster / mount

Won, I said if you do not carry on person...

826: good tip. Texas recently extended the Castle law to our vehicles. No CCL needed to carry in truck/car but still need to conceal.

Texas has all the good gun laws!

Not all of them. No open carry.

'14 Silverado LT with 40/20/40 front seats has a locking storage compartment below the armrest. Figured I could use that.

You may want to check your state laws. I taught a CWP class for a few years in South Carolina. A CWP permit is only good to carry a concealed weapon on your person! A CWP does not allow you to conceal it in your vehicle. If it is placed under or beside your seat a CWP permit does not apply. You must go by state law on where you are allowed to carry a weapon in your vehicle. For instance in South Carolina it is only legal to carry a weapon if it is in a latched compartment such as your glove box or center counsel. In North Carolina you can carry a weapon in your vehicle but it must be in open sight. Even in some states you must have your weapon in one compartment with your ammo in a separate compartment. Other states like PA you have to have a permit to carry it in your vehicle. I always keep mine on me so my permit covers me in my vehicle. Accept when I'm on school grounds state law requires me to place it in a latched compartment even if I'm just driving threw in my vehicle. Trust me you don't want to get caught concealing a weapon in your vehicle in a way your not suppose to.

The laws vary hugely state to state. Since I often travel armed I never go someplace new without checking www.handgunlaw.us. They have reciprocity maps so you can see who honors your permit and it also outlines applicable laws for each state. One of the most important is duty to inform- in NH you do not have to alert an officer you're armed if stopped but here in MI and in OH you must tell an officer ASAP if stopped.

Going back to secure storage, the lockbox posted a few posts up is too notch. Bobby is a vendor on here and I got one of his first underseat ones for the 900s. He is a top notch guy to work with.

Keep it unlocked while your in the truck, lock it when you get out. With that said it's also not just for guns; just a piece of mind for anything you want in there.

So if you're getting car jacked you have time top open the console and then open the unlocked console safe and then grab your gun and point it at the BG all before he breaks your window and is basically in your car? Sorry man I'll keep mine where I have unobstructed access at all times. I see the value in the console safe but keeping your gun there and thinking it's easily accessible in an emergency situation isn't one of them...

I am a firearms dealer & sell very high end 1911s. I am also a dealer for an excellent line of holsters & stock both inside the waistband & belt holsters. I use both depending on the particular gun being used & where I'll be going, weather, clothing etc.

I don't have my truck yet...TPW of 12/23 but they haven't gotten around to building it yet. In my Suburban, I keep a S&W J frame in a door compartment where it's very easy to grab if needed. I'd prefer to get the .45 Wilson Combat (that's the main line I sell) out of my holster but that's not very fast if sitting with a seat belt on. If someone steals the truck, I don't want to give them a gun but at least it would be a J frame instead of a much more expensive custom 1911. I don't know yet where I'll keep the J frame in the new truck but it'll be there.

I am also a dealer for TruckVault & normally have a couple of shotguns & a Wilson Combat SR (Suppressor Ready) Tactical AR rifle in there. I'll be putting one of the waterproof TruckVaults in the truck when I get it. They're pretty much bullet proof! I'll post photos of it on the forum when I get it.

We have an Enhanced Permit here in Mississippi & I am an approved instructor for the course. It allows us to carry in places that are off limits with the normal firearms permit. That includes about anywhere but Federal buildings, police stations, & a couple other places. It even allows carry in airport terminals but not past the check point. It's pretty neat!

Last year, our legislature passed a bill that clarified the state constitution. It seems that open carry has always been legal because the constitution gives the legislature the authority to regulate concealed carry only. Although it's legal, you don't see people open carrying.

I agree with the shotgun...I have a Remington 870 home defense model near my bed. One of my .45s is on the night stand but I'm heading for the shotgun. I don't think I'll ever need it because the British Labs in my profile photo sleep in the bedroom. They're really sweet but also ferocious sounding!

Lastly, the poster who mentioned the 9mm over penetration issue was probably referring to ball ammo which can be a problem. If using the right self defense ammo, it's a great round although I prefer calibers that have a "4" at the beginning of them, specifically a .45.

Sorry for the long post!

Hey when you get your truck would you be able to check and see if there are any holsters you stock that fit in the map pocked along the bottom of the center console? I have a Springfield Micro Compact 1911 .45ACP and I'm thinking that would be a nice place to keep it if I could find something that fits. If you find something that fits I'd be interested in purchasing from you...

I agree with the guys in that you will never get the BG with the gun in the console safe, however, I did order one because I frequently need to pic up my kid at school after sports. I also need to go to the post office (for those that do not know, it is against federal law to be on the post office premises with a firearm). That said, i am looking for a good mounted type holster that will keep the gun out of wandering eyes but be accessible quickly if ever needed. I'd be interested in seeing what the group comes up with!

Thanks for your interest, but the holsters I sell all have belt snap loops (you can take them off without unbuckling a belt). I really don't think they're what you're looking for to store a pistol in a truck. However, I did send an e-mail to the people who make these with some ideas this morning. I think they have something that could be easily modified to work. I'll post here if that plan comes together. Wish I had my truck so I could get some accurate measurements.

Good looking dogs, we have a Brit who usually sleeps in our room as well...same thing, her bark is far worse than her lick. Sweetest little lab I've owned, let alone been around, only about 40 pounds soaking wet but once she's training or afield she's a beast...at home all she wants to do is be my wife's lap dog.

Thanks for the compliment...I'll be sure to tell them! I only have two because a trainer popped the older one (on right in photo) a little hard with a collar 2 years ago & she took off like a bat out of hell. We were on a cattle ranch & she ran through some electric fences & couldn't get back to me. You wouldn't believe how many miles & hours we spent looking for her. After a month, I went & bought a puppy for $1000. Four days later, I got a call & the other one had been found. Another $1000 for the reward!

They both go with me pretty much all the time in my Suburban with the 3rd seats removed. I haven't quite figured out what I'm going to do when the Denali gets here.

We got ours last May and couldn't be happier with her... Did get her into too much hunting this fall and she's about to go off to a 3 month 'boot camp' in a couple months. Her instincts are too good not to get her the best training... They always say every hunter gets one really good dog in their lifetime, I think I may have gotten mine early.

We're about to get back on the breeder's waiting list to get a second in a couple years - Wish they only charged $1000!

Can't say enough about our breeder, but more the breed in general.

Our's usually rides shotgun with me, if the wife is along she's either a lap dog or hangs out in the back with the rear seats up.
