All Terrain Painted Bumper Chips

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed their AT getting an unusual number of rock chips on the painted front bumper? I've had mine just over 30 days and it has more chips in it than the whole body of my 2010 had after 4 years. Just wondering if they should have used the same paint on the bumpers that they use on the flexible plastic on the fronts? Seems to me it would be more forgiving.

clear bra over it is the only solution. With everything painted you will get more chips of course. I have had mine for 4 months... 5,300 miles.. 90% highway.. just a few very small chips. Two things.. don't follow other cars too closely ....and wax the front end every few months ( if you don't get a clear bra)

tailgating other cars and trucks is a best way to chip up the front end..

All good advice. Thanks. Another reason I mention it is I had a 92 Blazer with black painted bumpers and put over 200K on it and it didnt have this many chips. Just seems the paint quality seems to be lacking this time around.

yep, I've had my truck since the Monday after black Friday. I have 2600 miles on it and already had to touch up 4 rock chips. Winter weather doesn't help as we have more sand on the ground when we get bad weather here in OK. I am calling my guy soon to get a quote and have my front end done with a clear bra.

Welcome to the world of the painted front end. You are not the only one with chips, every vehicle with a painted front end will look like this. The plastic and chrome bumpers will not chip.

Still trying to figure out ways to avoid this. Just ordered some clear 3M auto film on amazon for 20 bucks, gonna see how it works

I had a clear bra put on as my first mod. It was a little pricey at $850, but that's the whole front, a pillars, roof edge, door cups and door edges. Was well worth it to me seeing how my Tacoma looked like someone took buckshot to it with it's painted front end.

If you dont mind spending alittle bit Xpel Ultimate is the best solution known to man. Its self healing and high quality. May want to check it out. My entire Gt500 is covered in it head to toe. I have no marks, scratches, chips or anything of the sort. You can take a wirebrush to it and then let it heal naturally in a few hours or pour hot water on it and it will heal instantly. This stuff is beyond amazing, i was skeptic until my buddy showed me on his car. My car has been saved many rock chips with it, you can see a few dimples where a rock tried to get at it. It also covers my headlights and fog light.

I would love to get some sort of clear bra, but the cheapest quote I got for my truck was 1100. Don't really want to shell out that much cash for something that should cost 100 if that

After reading this thread, I decided to go look at the front bumper. Just under 1000 miles and it looks like a stary stary night. Is there any place on this truck GM did not cut corners. What a pc. of crap. Maybe I'll take in and have it rhino coated, screw the front sensors

CAnt really blame GM, EPA mandated water borne paint several years ago. It is not as durable as the old stuff and chips a lot easier.

It is about $1100.00 here for a full front end but I only get the steel part of the bumper and the hood done as plastic chips won't rust. I get it for $700.00.
