No,installed as they said. I'm just not thrilled with the side to side movement, and the straps not staying to the full tightness. Thinking of making some kind of ratchet or something to ensure it stays snug.
for what these cost, I think there has to be a better way..

^^^ I'm happy with mine the straps are good to me. U didn't take off the bottom nut did u?

I like the way this detector clamps to the rear view mirror mount and I see it comes with a harness specific for the truck. What was involved in opening up the rear view to connect it? Do you think I could tap into the same harness they gave you to power my dash cam??? That would be pissa so I don't have to run wires down to a power port. Also how do you think that detector compares with the new wireless escort?

I didn't use the Blendmount direct wire because I added the Escort Live cord. I have used the direct wire cords before and they are very easy to install... you just have to find a pos + and neg - source. There is another post somewhere on here that says which wires will work. I would check it with a multi meter to be sure.

Mine is direct wired to the fuse box. It was very east to install, the front windshield area of the headliner is almost like a shelf and you tuck the cord in there. The A pillar trim is easy to take off and then I back wired the X3 plug on the fuse box... the purple/white wire gives you power with the ignition turned on.

Comparing radar detectors...the Escort Solo S3 (cordless) versus the Escort 9500ix? I guess it depends on what you are looking for... the S3 is battery powered by AA batteries. Convenient for a clean installation and for travelers who want to take protection with them. It lacks laser protection! but people could argue that by the time a detector gives you a laser warning you are already tagged. I like the idea that I may stand a chance if he is lasing another car or if he's had to much coffee and donuts and can't keep the spot on me. :)

The 9500ix is hands down the best detector I have ever owned, I actually have two of them... one in my Denali and one in my TBSS. The one in my Chevy is hardwired in with the Smartcord, I'm considering getting a mirror mount but right now I just windshield mount it. The one in my Denali has the Escort Live Cord. The 9500ix is a GPS based Radar/Lidar detector that you can download/upload user submitted speed traps, cams and known/false radar locations to/from your detector. When you add the Escort Live cord you join a community of users via your smart phone for a map/location based alert system. I have found it to be helpful in making me aware of potential traps/ambushes before I drive and during my drive.

Escort has a a newer Passport Max detector that is very good. If you were a 9500ix guy there is a high chance you won't like the Max, not necessarily because of performance but more of a preference thing. The Max is also Escort Live capable but they don't currently make a Blendmount for the Max.

As far as powering a dash cam... the blend mount harness has an RJ-11 (telephone connector) on it for the Escort/Bel series radar detectors that you push the pins/wires into the back of your mirror plug. There is normally enough room to do this without damaging the car's plug or overloading the circuit. I would caution that pushing two sets of wires into a single source would be risky. I saw another post where the guy got the necessary voltage out of the overhead console for his GoPro camera. I bought a USB power/inverter off Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GQ48FCY/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1) that I plan to wire directly to the fuse box. Since the headliner is so open on the front edge I figure that I can run a USB cable up there as well. I thought about adding the ports to the over head console but I think the level of work may be moderate to get it all put together and this approach is just as clean... I had exposed wires.

got my du-ha in. pretty happy with the function, look and fitment.. however, the strap mounts are a joke to be honest. I can see me fighting with those. going to try to come up with something that cant come loose...

other wise happy

I really like mine! Went in in 5 min. It's solid and not going anywhere.

Wow thank you very much for all the information! My wireless escort is an older model but I love it. But I am tired of changing the batteries (even though using lithium batteries lasts a lot longer they are expensive also) and having to deal with the suction cups. Now on my list to change it all to hardwired and hide the wires. Thanks again for the great write up!

Keep in mind that if you try to pull voltage from your mirror for an "add on" dash cam or other USB attached device that the car voltage is 12vdc... you will need some kind of inverter like the one above to get the USB 5vdc. Depending on what device you are connecting you may need a higher amp input... I know that some of the tablets like my Samsung Note Pro 12.2 require higher amperage than cheap chargers will provide so to be safe go with an inverter that at least one of the outputs is 3amp rated.

Just finished installing my RX catch can... easy install.

Now to watch the race... I'm about 20 minutes from the speedway and got thunder and light rain... might be headed for another delay... :(

Gave it a bath and with my 9 yr old sons help drilling holes added the rear splash guards. Sure made his day, and mine. :)

Cool man thanks. What brand are you running? Is it a vehicle specific application?

I went with the RevXtreme can and since they didn't have it listed specifically for my application I just called them and told them what I had and they sent my exactly what I needed(the cans are the same but the plumbing and mounting hardware might be different for different applications).

You can see where I mounted the bracket to the brake booster bolt in this pic pretty good.

Here is a link to a thread about the catch cans with some good info.

Airaid CAI and installed my Escort Blendmount (rear view mirror) and hardwired my Escort Live Cord. the Escort Live adds an app on your Smartphone that hooks you to toher users and now your alerts come across on your phone as well. Very cool! If anyone is interested send me a PM and I could probably take a video of how it works.

The BlendMount was the FIRST thing I did when I got my truck home. I wasn't sure if it would fit my new truck (I originally bought it when I had my 2007) but it went on perfectly. If you own an Escort this is a "must have".

Cleared the headlights, painted the trim, 6000k (need to swap for 5000k) HID low beams, and switchback LEDs. Loving it.

    • What’s missing in all this is patience and investment in the future. Buy a 170K starter home. Ten years later sell it invest in a more expensive home. Eventually you’ll have a 600K home and pay starter home payments. Buy a starter car. Maintain it well. Save the payments after it’s payed for then buy an expensive car if you desire. Buy a tumbler make your own coffee, pack your lunch. Cook your own dinner. Most importantly take care of your car.
    • People mislead themselves. Statistics are highly useful indicators.   Here's the tie-in to this thread. If an oil sample tests shows a wear indicator of 7 using cheaper ACDelco oil, and a wear indicator of 2 (lower = less wear) using a particular brand of Mobil oil, and wear has a linear relationship with engine lifespan, anyone could assume that Mobil is reducing wear by more than 50% (let's just say a 200% reduction for you red state people trying hard to do math) which leads to increasing engine life by 2x. Perhaps, in a vacuum, by itself, when dreamed by AI.   Yeah?! That's what the statistic is saying, isn't it?   No, it isn't. It didn't come out and say engine life is doubled. That's a very bad assumption, and a case of severe myopia by assuming something potentially untrue about the only data point in focus.   Average cost of a new car is 50k. You bet it is.   The median cost of a new car is more like 35k. Expensive cars are skewing the perception that "average" now means a $50k price of entry for a very average automobile. And that's not true. People who don't understand statistics twist the living heck out of them to mean all sorts of things they don't actually mean.   "Average" new car payment is $1000/month. Yep, it is. And in that number are all the $35k new car buyers who bring significant equity, and the $25k new car buyers who finance the car for a month just to get a rebate, and then pay it off. Know what isn't in that number? All the payments made by people who don't finance a car.   Picking one's own data point (don't have a car payment, never paid $50k for a new vehicle, my house cost $170k, I afforded a middle class lifestyle on $4.50/hr) is just a data point. Just like earning $25/hr in an area where the median home price is almost $1 Million is a data point. In fact, it's a lot of data points given that 80% of the US population lives in/around major cities. They're not idiots; the vast majority of them do it to make a living because that's where the big money is.   The highs have become higher, lows have become lower, and how your personal mileage varies is not truth for an entire country. At the same time you can't NOT acknowledge the data. While it doesn't paint YOUR personal picture, it certainly tints the reality that you also live in, as does your single data point.
    • Glad you had success with it. I did as well, but about 5-6 months later it returned. Tried again, same result. This was after the dealer made several attempts and never even got it to slow down.
