Ok... once you look at that picture real good.... that is everything it takes just to activate DOD. Just imagine what it takes to move that new 2014 truck down the road.

My truck only goes into V4 in sixth gear. In town I keep my truck in m5 so it never goes into V4. I'm going by sound and dash .

This is correct... If you look at the Pic I attached you will see a green column labeled DOD Disable Vs. PRNDL. Everything is disabled except Drive (drive is not an option)

Gears when in drive can actually be selected in the table just below that one.

LOL... I was just like you until I spent a hand full of times hanging out with Ed Wright. After witnessing the VooDoo he could do with LT1/LT4's I was instantly sold on Fuel Injection and Custom Tuning. I will admit that my background in Electrical Engineering/ Automation and Controls didn't hurt though.

 

Your dilemma with in town DOD can be tuned out though, I have mine set to come on after 55 mph.

Open the exhaust you will know. I don't mind it, I already been told Im weird.

I'm not familiar with the work truck dash cluster, so I can't help. Sorry. But from another thread, it looks like you cannot.

That just goes to show how seamless this V4 is. It is very hard to tell with stock exhaust and no indicator when the AFM/DOD/V4 is activated.

 

Don't despair though.... there is a way...

Tools Needed - Vehicle ramps or jack stands.2 pry bars, wd40 or similar spray lubricant, common hand tools, sawzall w/sharp blade, friend or friends, enough beer for you and your friend/friends.

 

1. Drive vehicle up onto ramps or use jackstands so that you have enough room to roll around underneath your truck (caution - do not drive vehicle up onto jackstands)

2. Place a sawzall with sharp blade carefully just behind the Y-pipe and pull the trigger until the back half of the exhaust is completely separated from the Y-pipe.

3. Carefully spray WD40 onto rubber hangers so that they can be dismantled with ease, being careful not to subject yours or your loved ones eyes to the slippery mist.

4. Using pry bars, gently start prying rubber pipe hangers from hooks. (this can be aggravating and is where the beer starts helping.)

5. During this part.... Tell your friends you are going in for more beer and to take a quick leak, making sure that all your tools are left behind just incase you have real good friends who will continue working on your car while you actually go inside and sit on your ass.

6. Come back outside acting like you must have eaten something bad because you were stuck in the crapper for the last 30 minutes then act really shocked when you see your cat back laying in the driveway.

7. grab some old ear plugs, ear muffs or an old ice pick to rip your ear drums out for item number (8)

8. Go drive your new truck with AFM indicator.

No sir... I haven't spoken to him but a handful of times in the last 8-10 years, especially since he went into partial retirement. I hung out on OORA and green country forums a lot, then got hooked on the road circuit and beat the crap out of a few cars in BMWCCA, ended up twisting one up and went back to something safer, SuperMoto! The last couple years I have built a few turbo cars and got the drag bug again so here I am, learning what I can from some of these guys so I can get back up to speed.

lol. I caught the drag racing bug again last year after being away a few decades. Came across ClassRacer.com and noticed he posts there quite a bit.

 

Its a shame whats happening to the sport; but class racing is where its at theses days IMHO.

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
