2014+ AFM (Active Fuel Management)

I had it dyno tuned. Hand held tuners are to sketchy with gas trucks I'm not a fan of them.

How much was the dyno tune? And how long did it take them to do it?

Have had my Range Technology AFM installed for 1500 trouble free miles. No more V4 in my 6.2 liter V8

It takes all of 5seconds to plug in under the driver side dash in the OBD port. I did not spend 52k on a 1/2 ton truck, to have half the cylinders working. I averaged 17mpg on 6hr (hilly) drive to upstate NY, with my cruise control on for maybe half the time, and speeds ranging anywhere from 74-85mph. Probably would have 19-20mpg if I slowed down to 65-70. Well worth the $179 spent. Not detectable and easily unplugged in seconds if ever getting dealer servicing. I will get a tune one day but only have 2300miles on the truck and want to wait till something around 8-10k before going down that road. Likely will use BlackBear when I do it based on what I've read on this forum.

Have worked in dealers for 31 years. Never have checked for a "tune". Although it is always a possibility. Diesel is a different story though.

Man I'm just curious but what are you going to do if you ever have any warranty issues come up? I would love to add a exhaust and a custom tune to mine as well that disables the afm all together but am afraid that as soon as I do something major will crap out on me.

Come on in, the water is fine. I have a Black Bear custom tune. Best money you will ever spend on your truck. Justin keeps a copy of your stock tune and you load it back on any time you want, like if you needed warranty work.

I didn't think black bear had anything out yet for the 14s? How exactly does the black bear tune work do I just call them and tell them I want a tune for my truck and they send me one?

How much is a tune from black bear?

If you go on their web site(you can find a link on this site) you find a list of where the next meet is going to be, sign up and meet Justin in person for a tune. Or you can buy an auto-cal. You plug it in to your truck and drive with it and record data, send the data to Justin and will e-mail you a tune to log in to your truck. You can e-mail him or post a thread on this site and he will help you out.

If i'm not paying attention, I would never know it switched. If I anticipating it going to V8 to V4, I will notice a slight engagement.

Same for me.

Me too. I have a true dual Flowmaster exhaust system on mine and unless I'm paying attention I hardly notice when it changes.

If convertor is locked up properly, then you won't experience a loss or gain in rpm's.... Maybe bobble at the transition but RPMs should remain the same if speed is constant.

I have a 2014 sierra 1500 4.3L with the standard. It's my understanding that all the new engines drop cylinder via the AFM. Question is, with the standard DIC I can't find an indicator light to show when it's in V4 mode. Is this light only on the upgraded DIC's?

I know on the upper trim levels on the "instant MPG/mpg for the last 25/50/400 miles" screen it shows going from V8 (in red) to V4 (in green) in the bottom right corner. It also shows that v8 to v4 on the "trip/average mpg" screen.

Lower trim levels, might not have a screen that shows it.
