Build date sticker in on drivers side door jamb. Easiest way to explain is open drivers side door, lay on floor and look up at the bottom side of the door sill and it is there.

I'll try to look underneath today... While I'm there I'll snap some pics of the frame.

For the exact date of build you can email [email protected]

Give your VIN asking for build sheet. I had a reply about 4 hours later, and this was late at night. My son bought a new CC also recently. His was built 2 days prior to mine. My VIN indicated over 1800 vehicles built after his.

I have a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab with 11k miles. I too noticed that the wax was peeling off along with several areas of surface rust. My bedside had a dent in it and the body shop had to pull the bed off to fix. I happened to stop by the body shop while the bed was off and noticed several areas of surface rust and actual flaking of the frame. I'm working with GM now to come to a resolution. I just got off the phone with them and they have offered to undercoat the whole frame removing the bed and cab to do so. I'm a little skeptical about this and not sure it'll fix the entire problem.

My neighbor has a 2012 F-150 with double the miles and not one place on his frame has rust. His has a painted frame. I don't understand why Chevrolet doesn't paint their frames. I've tried to upload pics of the issues on my truck put it keeps telling me the file is to large.

Same issue here, for the most part only on fame facing the ground edge to edge. Sporadic though here and there. With 41k miles though Im definitely on my own as I cant imagine theyll ever be a recall. Im just going to get some POR-15 and every year paint rust spots as they appear. Only real issue I have found, great truck other than that.

Kind of pointless to just paint over rust spots with POR and leave wax everywhere else. Might as well remove the wax and degrease the frame before you put the POR-15 on. It's a product that requires multiple steps to apply, not a touch-up product.

Painted frames rust too. I have a coworker with a 2013 F150 that's has plenty of frame rust. It doesn't present itself the same as these trucks do but it rusts too. Keeping rust off of a truck frame is simply a maintenance issue. The only way to guarantee that a frame won't rust is to pull the bed/frame off, strip the factory coating off, and apply something like POR-15 or a rubberized coating (rhino lining/line-x). Even then, if you drive the truck in the salt, odds are rust will find it's way onto a spot that was missed.

Pictures attached of the frame on my 2014 Sierra that I bought new. January 2014 build date. I'm assuming my truck would be covered under the TSB / recall? I had plans to have the frame undercoated but it sounds like it would be pointless, be a waste of money, and potentially void the warranty.... I'm not worried about structural integrity but don't like the looks of it.

Truck has 17,xxx miles.

GM's frame coating is just bad all around. There's too many trucks out there of theirs that have this issue. Every one of the four trucks owned by me and my immediate family members have or had this issue. Dad just got done redoing the frame of his 07 with POR15.

It really depends on how involved you want to be in keeping the rust off. If you're alright with trying to keep the wax on, have the dealer reapply the wax but plan being in this same position again in a year, maybe 2.

If you want a permanent solution, applying POR-15 like DarylZ71 is really the only way to go. It's a lot work but it's permanent.

I'm not looking to pull my bed off or spend 30 hours sanding and applying POR-15 to the whole frame. It's more of an appearance thing. I'd rather have it fixed and touch up / cover up rust spots on the frame after it out of warranty since it sound like having it Ziebart Undercoated is pointless.

Similar issue with my truck - Started over a year ago. I had a Diamond Kote applied at the dealer when I purchased the truck as it came with a 10 year frame warranty - I noticed the Diamond Cote Peeling off down to bare metal - After numerous calls and e-mails to the dealer one of the servie advisors slipped up and mentioned the TSB to me - I then approached the Manager regarding the TSB and he told me they were working on a solution.

It took the dealer over a year to "build" an area to complete the work as it required harsh chemicals for peeling the wax coating off the frame. In the meantime he offered a temporary re-spray of the undercoating which I accepted to prevent any further corrosion during the winter salt months. Unfortunately they sprayed this directly over the road dirt and rust that had already accumulated.

Originally I was told the process would take 5-7 days as the frame had to be removed from the vehicle. To my surprise when the dealer contacted me to book it in they told me it would only take 2 days. I asked if they were still taking the frame out and they told me no - the TSB just required them to scrape the frame, treat it and re-apply a coating. I was hesitant but allowed them to complete the service.

When I went to pick up the truck I was shocked at the "quality" of the repair. They had only applied the diamond kote back over all of the rust and dirt and as far as I could tell did not do any prep work to the frame. What was worse is the entire top of the frame was untouched. not cleaned. not treated and not even covered in the Diamond Kote.

These pictures were taken on the dealers lot the day they finished their repair process:

After I took the photos I went in to speak the manager who said I would need to leave the truck with them so they can take the bed and cab off to complete the repair properly. I then got news from him that they spoke with GM rep who only authorized them to repeat the process again however this time authorized an additional 3 hours to do it properly.
I was furious at this point and told him that there is no way to fix the frame properly without removing it and even then it is a gamble as the rust inside the frame and between the mounted accessories such as body mounts would not be touched and eventually bleed through the new coating...
They are now removing the cab and box to attempt the repair.
As of now I have zero faith this repair will last more than a year and as we have no lemon laws in Canada I am documenting the entire process and will be pursuing legal action when the rust comes through again.
Anyone else have this much trouble dealing with these guys? Or see such a hack job repair?

LOL,I had a 2004 Silverado that I had to ditch because it was going to rust out from under me. Deciding I'm going to do it right this time, I have mine fluid filmed by local body shop, Mistake, I bought a 2017 GMC,,November 29th, 2017 had it done theIMG_6275.thumb.JPG.d9e2dd66d9e5db94ca13e5b1c0f91735.JPG first week. It now has 1100 miles on it and I was washing it this morning only to find that I have a bare spot right down to the frame. I'm sick as I encouraged my son to have his sprayed too.

    • What I think you're saying is there is supply here at home, and in Venezuela, and we could ease pricing if only it were favorable to do so.   Well, yes?   But that's not the current market. Supply isn't what could someday exist, if only, it's what producers are willing to produce and sell at a certain price point.   The national price of single family homes would come way down if we'd just slap together a few million homes this summer.   RAM and GPUs would get a lot cheaper if we just set up some factories to produce a bunch more and stopped using it to build out AI data centers.

    • If we actually used any significant amount of that source in the USA then I'd agree but we don't. We've had that discussion before. We drill and pump more than we use. Thing is, we sell. We export. Gas and Crude. It's more profitable so any shortage here is self inflicted and LEGAL.    I worked a gas plant that has multiple fuel sources available and I worked in the furnace and boiler plant in that facility. I'd had days we swapped fuel types four times in a twelve hour shift which isn't done on supply but on margin. Two of the fuel sources are internally generated. Tail gas and DAK, both of which are sold as well a consumed. We always had more than we needed to run the process but we chose the fuel that produced the best margin not bought at the cheapest price always. A good bit of math to that and back in the time that was done on a slide rule.     I worked the Shale Oil Semiworks of Chevron Research and CONOCO Research in Salt Lake City. That process never went into production although it was very successful. Why? Did we lack oil bearing shale? Nope. Price of crude never made the margins work. That was in the late 70's early 80's. Remember history? What was happening then was a reaction to that situation. It didn't drive it. If so then it's easy. This isn't a supply and demand thing. This is a profit and margin thing and AI rules that now.    In no refining situation that I was ever in would a bomb hitting a well anywhere in the world 'instantly' interrupt or even distress the supply. Most plants have more than a months worth of crude in the tank field and more in pumping stations. That yo-yo could play out over days, weeks and maybe months and have zero impact on plant operations. How many times has this been off and on in the last few months? These people and not stupid. These plants measure down time in hundreds of thousands of dollars per day. They are not sucking fumes or waiting on the next truckload with baited breath. Besides, as I noted, they are for the most part 'vertically integrated'. They own it from the dirt is sits in to the delivery rack and sometimes to the pump. It has a HUGE shock absorber built in. When production suffers, refining wins and when refining is winning exploration is killing. The rest of that crap in the news is a 'news cycle'. Government dipping in to reserves? Oil is stealing their milk money. There's a reason Chevron abandon Venezuela infrastructure and it had nothing to do with security of US citizens. Nationals run those plants. it has to do with MARGINS disappearing to corruption. They are in no hurry to return. Is there supply there? Oh yea. More than enough to offset what is bought in the middle east. Just isn't ???? Profitable.    We have supply. There are places in Illinois you can drive a pipe into the ground and run your homes natural gas furnace on it.    A refinery fire will gum up the supply works but not a localized war where the market is using a limited supply from. Now Europe, that's something other....
