I know there is plenty of posts about maganflow but I cant seem to find who has what magnaflow muffler. Or whats the difference in the 14, 18, 22inch. Does one size cause less drone? Is on size louder? And are people going with inlet/outlet size. I was going to go with 3in but for no particular reason. Thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated/

And please dont talk me into flowmasters or corso. I really like the magnaflow sound.

14 is the loudest, 22 the most quiet. I have an 18" x 3" on my '85 Ford F250 460 C.I. I get some drone in a very narrow rpm range but fairly quiet and a nice sound otherwise, not at all intrusive or annoying.

I just installed the 22 inch magnaflow muffler 12589 Single in Single out w/offset. I removed the resonator and flapper and the truck sounds great. Low rumble at idle but slight growl on hard throttle. Sound the way a truck should. For me the 18 was too loud but the 22 is perfect.

I will gets some video clips posted in the next few days.

5.3 or 6.2?

Im afraid the 22 might not be loud enough on my 6.2 but the 18 might be too much...

I dont want drone, but dont want this pansy sound it has.. I started it at the dealer the other day and you couldnt even hear it.. sad

I initially left the resonator on after having the Magnaflow 22 inch installed. It had a nice subtle rumble but was still somewhat tamed unless I was really on the throttle. After about 100 miles I had the resonator removed and that really woke up the exhaust note. With the 22 inch muffler and resonator removed it sounds the same as the audio clips of the Magnaflow catback exhaust system on their site with single side rear exit. The catback system uses the same 22 inch muffler. I have the 5.3 and you don't really hear it in the cab unless you are under heavy throttle. Very quiet cruising down the highway. No drone.

Do we even need to ask....? Pics, videos, sound clips... Give us something dammit! I have zero imagination.

I have a 6.2, problem you run into is Magnaflow only makes the 3.5" in/out with a center/offset muffler in the 22" model. Unless you have the shop reduce your exhaust down to 3" you wont have much choice but to run the 22" model.

Mine is setup with 22" model, no flapper valve, no resonator, sounds great. Nice rumble at idle and under throttle. Slightly louder during V4 mode but not bad at all. No drone at all.

What's the diameter of the exhaust on a 5.3? I searched a little and didn't see it answered.

I'm wondering the same. I'm going to order a spin tech muffler 3" inlet and 3" outlet

Yeah guess I'll grab a 11229 Magnaflow and get it welded in. Not sure how I want it to exit though. Dump it, side exit, or normal and get the resonator cut out..

I have the resonator cut off and dumped after the factory muffler and it sounds like i have exhaust, cost me $20 bucks. the stock exhaust without the small resonator behind the rear sounds pretty good and a TINY bit of drone but nothing that will drive any normal person crazy.

IF anyone choses to do this, make sure you cut and dump the exhaust before the valve. REMOVE the valve, if you don't your truck will sound like an airplane lol

I just want to make sure I'm not ordering a 3" inlet and going to have to adapt from 3.5" to 3" on this muffler when i can order a 3.5" inlet and 3" outlet.

I'm guessing you're speaking from experience with the airplane bit lol.

yea i rode around around sounding like a jet boat out of water for a day until I came across the thread where someone clamped their valve open and it fixed the sound until I can get back to the shop and cut valve off.
