Accidents??

Recommended Posts

We were lucky to get one of the first '14 early last year.

We were unlucky to get into an early accident too.

We laugh about it now, but here's the result of my wife's wonderful driving ability.

Anyone got others?

$6.5G in damage. Good as new now. Especially the fact that all parts were OEM, cause no aftermarket parts available.

Learned that GM is placing a core-charge on alot of parts, so keeps the parts out of the hands of the aftermarket companies longer. Go figure??

that cost 6.5k geeezus! well glad she is all fixed up.

for 6.5k i figured you would be able to buy a whole new bed.

EDIT: Whats the story behind it? I am assuming since the truck has what appears to be ice on it, that it was a winter weather related accident?

probably a new bed, taillight, rear bumper, rear wheel, cost of realigning and testing frame.

I took my truck through the car wash because I was worried about the salt and chemicals after a storm ruining the body and finish. Well this particular car wash has a tight turn to get in and I have successfully taken my 2007 Silverado through it in the past and once with the new 2014 with no problem. Well this particular morning, after 1 month of ownership, I took the turn too sharp and put a nice 24+" gash down the rear fender above the wheel on the driver's side. I had grazed the payment kiosk at the turn. Words can not describe how angry I was. I refused to live with the damage either since the truck was only a month old. So I paid $550 to have it properly repaired at a dealer's body shop and now it looks good as new.

Lesson: stop using car washes no matter how much salt is on your ride. Wash it yourself always and in a pinch, just grab the hose and rinse it. I won't ever be using that or any car wash again.

Just need to go to the right car washes! The one I go to has an awesome undercarriage wash/rinse that I would not be able to duplicate at a manual wash and the undercarriage is where most of the damage from salts and chemicals takes place.

Yeah that's true but the problem is none of them are that great around here. I'll keep looking. But one car wash likes to grab one of your tires to help guide the vehicle so I refuse to go there and mess my alignment up. The one I originally posted about is nice because it's brush-less but it doesn't clean that well just spraying water and the turn is too sharp for me to go back. My problem is when I wash the truck myself, I like to go all out and wax it and shine the tires and do the interior and I'll spend 5 or 6 hours working on it. I need to get comfortable with only doing a huge detail job like that a few times a year and just do a quick 1-hour wash by hand in between to keep it fresh looking.

Hmm. The wash I go to uses a single wheel grabber to pull it thru the wash, never have had a problem with it.. and I understand the desire to detail the heck out of your truck, I was like that once, sooner or later you get over it and will do it a few times a year :)

I try to wash my truck by hand as much as possible but sometimes life gets in the way and that is why there are car washes. Although some do suck, luckily for me there is one close by that does a pretty decent job just driving through. There is a sharp turn to get it in but it is not like mentioned above (no walls to hit) and it cost me about 9 bucks and it's not a "touchless" car wash it has those absorber type material things that spin and the spot free works decently well.

Not a winter related accident. Careless driving (turn). Was hit on the side at 55MPH. Could have been alot worse.

No new box. Box skin was replaced, rim ($800), middle wheel well, outer wheel well, painted mudflaps, bumper and all brackets, exhaust pipes, muffler, and tri-coat paint.
