Hey fellas, somebody was good enough to post the vin/RPO decoder for current and past GM models. A look at these GM codes for the 6.2 L86 V8 reads, among other things, "E85 Max". It's on page 6.

This same "E85 Max" information also appears for the 4.3 and the 5.3 L83 which we all know to be flex fuel capable motors.

The inclusion of the "E85 Max" designator for the 6.2 is at variance to everything else I've read. Any of you guys have any insight as to the significance of this information?

I was under the impression that the new 6.2 was NOT E85 compatible. Not sure what that E85 MAX means, but its a different signifier that the 5.3L which is FLEX FUEL.

My truck has a yellow "flex fuel" cap on the gas tank. Anyone with a 6.2L want to chime in and tell us what color gas cap your trucks have? ALso there would be a sticker on the drivers window that says "flex fuel."

If it doesn't say it on the window or the gas cap, I would shy away from using E85. Stick with premium 91 or higher for the 6.2L.

Although the link below has specs for the L86 that says Recommended fuel is regular unleaded or E85......which doesnt help clear the confusion at all. I would still go by the gas cap. Black gas cap means use plain old gasoline (91 or higher). Yellow gas cap is ok for E85.

There was a lot of misinformation from GM before these trucks launched. Some marketting material listed the 6.2L as Flex Fuel, and some didn't. It's confirmed now that they aren't, but it seems that even all parts of GM weren't sure before the lauch. I suspect that they planned on making them flex fuel at some point, but then something changed and they didn't/couldn't which led to the confusion.

Black Gas Cap

OP, you said "past" but I didn't understand the context. The 6.2Ls were flex fuel prior to 2014.

Current and past yes. However The 6.2 is listed as "E85 Max" even for the 2014 L86 6.2 engine.
