Traction Control and Stabilitrac Question

Turn it off and do a measured test in some off road (track?) location and report back.

We had freezing rain Saturday, snow Sunday, no need for off road test or measurements. I live in a very rural area, 2-1/2 miles from the nearest pavement. These roads are like polished glass right now.

Just a fact that the ABS cannot stop faster than I can feathering the brake with ABS disabled.

It's not even close!

I do agree, on dry pavement at highway speeds, it is beneficial, but that is the only time, IMO!

On ice, ABS pretty much prevents you from braking at all. I'd rather be able to pump my brakes. I think I'll start pulling the fuse when I think it will help. Keep in mind we all drove without it for years... Which means we know how to.

I've already gone sliding uncontrollably, while driving on an icy logging road in the mountains. Just about wrecked really bad, but managed to swing it sideways around the corner at the bottom of the hill. Stabilitrak fought me the whole time though. This year I don't have those garbage factory tires on it though, so don't slide nearly as much.

On a side note, Duratracs are unreal tires. 15,000 KM on them this summer, and they still perform unbelievably well during the winter. I despised Goodyear till i bought these.

Like I hate GoodYear and everything they make but the DuraTrac is the one exception, those are the best tires money can buy for the snow belt!

Which ABS fuse are you pulling ? I see two listed in the book. One big square one for the ABS pump #3 and one little one for the ABS valves #25.

Thank you.

Also has anyone that has pulled a fuse noticed any other issues beside the ABS light staying on?

I learned to drive before all this garbage was added and can control my vehicle. I had started another thread about this but the only response was to try and pull a fuse which I was scared to do because I did't want to throw it into limp mode or something.

Anyone know if disabling ABS will nullify your insurance if your in an accident and the adjuster finds out ?

I pulled #3, it's a 60 amp fuse. The only light that stayed on was the ABS light.

Did you think about putting a toggle switch in for that fuse instead of having to take the fuse completely out?

That's why I'm working on right now I'm looking for a 60a normally closed relay so when I energize the relay it breaks the contact and disables ABS. Under normal driving the relay is deenergized and the abs is functioning properly. I'm having a hard time finding one with that high a current capacity.

Any luck on this yet? Am really interested in doing this.

I found a relay, it's just a matter of buying the supporting parts and wiring it in. I couldn't find a weatherproof relay/socket that's 60+ amps so I going to put it in a radio shack weather tight project box and just seal all the wires that penetrate it. Then all I'll have to do is mount it under the hood and wiring it in where I need. I won't be getting my truck till spring due to the 6.2/NHT combo so I'll have to wait until then before I make it and test it.

I know this is super old but I cannot help myself. I live in the country ,muddy roads, sand and in the pastures a lot checking cattle etc. So NOTHING in the world is more annoying and will get you stuck Quicker than these two asinine GM better ideas. I WILL find a way to complety trash this junk and if anyone is interested just reply and I will get back try to get back to you when a real solution is found to this stupidity. All traction control does is apply the rear brakes simultaneously to keep the wheels from slipping. The other day my idiot 2013 4WD thought I slipped a wheel and the stabilitrack light has been on ever since. Which means the stabilitrack is on permanent until it  is *serviced*. I could kill engineers for ideas like this.  The relay is a very good idea I hope to check into something like that but I do not want to be able to turn it off and on. I just want to TRASH IT!

wondering if these controls can be made (programed) so you can kill both with the switch and they stay off, i'm not sure how hard this would be...maybe have to buy a replacement BCM...I think that is where the controls for this run. I'll ask when I contact these guys https://www.stealthdiesel.com/OZ-BCMA-UL/

im looking to get control of my light switch back. I really love my truck but all the nanny crap on it pisses me off.
