Off roading 2wd

Yeah but that's a non-Z71 right? I'm not questioning the logic behind a 2WD truck. I'm just trying to understand a Z71 off road package in a 2WD truck. Again no disrespect intended and I'm not far removed from college myself so I certainly understand the financial decisions you are making.

I think it's just for the look, not functionality. People will pay extra just for the look of a Z71 package and being able to say they have a Z71.

I know a guy who bought a non-4x4 Z71 Colorado and he will tell you straight up, "it's just for the looks, I don't care about 4x4, I will never take it off road".

A friend of mine used an S10 with the largest mud tires he could fit on the rear. Yeah, he had to be yanked out once in a while; no, it wouldn't go as far up a steep grade as a 4wd...but he had a load of fun with that 2wd on our trails. He was actually fun to watch, just driving through or over something with a lift and lockers gets boring.

He wasn't afraid to push it, probably most of the reason he was able to go as far as he did...not meaning he beat the truck, but that he at least attempted the trail.

(deleting my post. After reflecting back on what I wrote I was being an ass. That was not my intention and I apologize for doing so. I didn't really contribute to the discussion so I'm taking these down. Sorry if I offended any of you guys.)

That's pretty much what I have on my truck. Should give you enough clearance for 33s easily or if you wanted to go taller (but skinnier), you could go 295/60/20 on it. As far as tires, look into the Nitto Exo Grappler or the Toyo Open Country RT. Both are midway between an AT and an MT and will suit you well on the trails.

If you look at my sticker, it's different and just says Z71, not Z71 Off-Road (even though mine has the off-road package, so who knows what GM is thinking), so it's more of an appearance package. The only "off-road" things about it that I can think of are the shocks, the air cleaner, tow hooks and hill descent control. Other than that, I think one of the main reasons I like the Z71 package is for the interior accents: the gauges, the door sills and the silver trim.

I thought the Z71 suspension package is just part of the All Terrain package. The All Terrain package is what gives you the different front end.

In either case, I thought I wanted the Z71 suspension, but I liked the std. SLT grill better and the ride on the Z71 equipped trucks was too harsh. I would have liked to have gotten the cooled seats, but I got the model year close out pricing and great financing so I couldn't build the exact truck I wanted. That being said, I love the S*** out of my truck and not having the cooled seats really don't bother me. Enjoy your truck and don't get all tied up with what you should have or shouldn't have gotten.

True story last year my brother in law bought two Toyotas. One for his wife the Texas package. One for him top of the line TRD off road platinum package he gets paid miles. Stop by showed it to me look like a 4WD. Two wks later he come by and ask me where is the 4wd button. I looked under it 2WD. Even his salesman though it was a 4WD, sold it to him as a 4WD. Even tried to talk him in to getting one for his wife. As many 4WD Iv bought never new that you could get a off road package with out four wheel drive. They said you sign the papers, 5k mistake, he needed 4WD.

I have a all terrain 4x4 and for the time and money it cost me level the truck with the rough country 2.5 its well worth it. I get that you want to go a little bigger from what I saw on the 3.75 kit, but I will tell you that a good leveling kit and oversized mud/all terrain tires will get you the desired look. I have not replaced my stock tires yet but I know when I do I will be going as big as possible and even that will be great for mudding and off roading. I had the same set up on my 2004 and I can honestly say I never got stuck, and I ran it through mud pits in non 4x4. After my leveling on this truck you can tell its higher when you get in and out of it. Just because you are also thinking about bigger better tires the leveling and the new tires/rims will be right in a good range for what your getting out of it, and what your paying for it. just a honest opinion on getting a level and big a$$ tires you will be alot happier and have a little more to spend on tires lol. cheers.

surebuttercringe is referring to Chevy Silverado Z71 which are different than Sierra which has the All Terrain package. Silverado Z71 has the blacked out grill vs. chrome and different shapes such as the honeycomb on LTZ. On the other hand, I've seen several posts about the Sierra All Terrain options vs. SLT as you describe.

Just have to say you don't take a 2WD to any mud.I don't care if you have a g80 or not bad idea. You could put a tot of weight in the bed but that doesn't matter. You should have paid the extra money for the 4wd because you are going to get stuck.2wd in any kind of mud that isn't a puddle is gonna spin the rear wheels and you are done.lol.
