Any of you guys have those stupid merge lights that don't work with a shit. It's RACE time if I have to hit one! I hate those fkn things!!

Never understood that myself... "Hey, too much traffic volume, let's slow it down!!!" idiots.

Since when is the guy on the Interstate supposed to give you "merge distance"?

My understanding is that I have to yield if I wanna get onto the highway. I have to look for the gab and accelerate or slow down to merge.

It is a different story in rush hour traffic though. But you were talking about a room of 4 car lengths.

I'm really curious because I almost slammed into cars in front of me a couple times. They hit the brakes just because someone came up the on-ramp?!?!

The vehicle merging must, at least in my state, yield to those on the highway. Seems the squatter rule applies. "Ye who inhabits lane first makes the rules". That said, if you are on the highway and already at speed, making room for the (possibly struggling) merging vehicle is commonly referred to around here as "common courtesy", and shall be dealt with appropriately if said highway-going pilot refuses to accommodate.

My opinion is this. We are all in this together. If the driver of the highway-going vehicle can easily accel/decel to accommodate merging traffic who, probably up until the last second, wasn't aware of the traffic situation at hand, then he/she should do so sacrificing that last .001 seconds of their arrival time for the greater good.

Maybe an analogy would better explain my point...I am under NO legal obligation whatsoever to hold the door at the local gas stop/restaurant/Wal-Mart/watering hole for the incoming patrons while I exit. But I do because failing to do so would #1-Make me an **** and #2-My father and my father's father before him would rise up from their grave and "jerk a knot in my tail".

If im on a two lane highway ill pull to the left to give room for some one to merge, especially some one pulling anything, most of the time its hope and a prayer for them anyway. On a three lane I stay in the middle. People go insane when they get around a big rig, a little speed management and anticipation goes a long way. People don't realize that in the left lane ( passing lane ) your not supposed to slow down traffic behind you, no matter how fast they are going. That's starting to get in forced here, about time.

Often times though common courtesey turns into what people think the law really is vs reality. Which can cause accidents . Although I do agree, I try to get over when I can, but if I cant to bad for the merger. I have been towing before and really couldnt slow down or speed up fast enough, ive seen mergers run into the grass or come to a complete stop, as they probably thought they had a right to get on the highway, and they didnt.
