Truck @ the dealer for a loud ticking noise

That's because the Titan has been around so long in that original configuration that they finally got all the bugs worked out after what.. 10+ years? it's due for a new re-design very soon and then you get to start all over again. And I don't know what crack you folks are smoking saying that the Tundras are all reliable and blah. Have you not been hanging around the Tundra forums? You might be in for quite a surpise at the issues they are having too :) your frustration and dissapointment with the GM product is certainly understandable and justifiable but don't go out there with the false pretense that there is some superior brand that doesn't have it's own problems that are hard to diagnose and deal with. They ALL have them.

Golly, Geez, a simple correction would suffice, nobody was meaning to offend anyone, just a casual conversation. Have you had bad experiences with Tundra?

No, Have you?

I have almost 10K on mine good so far. My brother in law bought two Tundras last year, one loaded out 4x4, one Texas package no problems so far, luck of the draw on the bad ones.

Just a comment from earlier posts on topic or off topic? my sierra was bought back, I bought the eco diesel, and it drives very well and is very comfortable too.

Fuel numbers I am getting have been better then 24 mpg on crew/cab 6'-4" box bighorn, and the 8 speed transmission keeps up effortlessly with diesel engine and maintains an average no tow load 1800 rpm throughout shifts. 420lbs of torque is created at 2000rpm which is great for towing and keeps fuel consumption low.

Down fault of Ram is lower payload in box, not a Gm styling not a fan off rim choices and early rust issues from past that have been addressed or not?

Otherwise it drives very well shifts smooth, lots of torque to get things moving fast, and fuel mileage of the best of all diesel engines.

Oh radio works very well, and it does not shake!

Coming from a die hard Gm guy this truck is not bad.

Test drove the Toyota tundra but best fuel numbers would be 17mpg. This is an issue when towing, as numbers would be much lower again. Toyota's have good resale value and cost more but are in my opinion a great truck but costly to own. Titan is not an option fuel numbers not in line with current trucks, ford now a tired design, but things are looking good in the new year for the aluminum body which should put them out front with sales when the fuel/tow numbers are released publicly.

Just my opinion.

Got my truck back yesterday, they said its operating normally. Whatever. I will drive it til it eventually misfires again.

I did go test driving last night, coincidentally my dad is in the market for a new vehicle, so we went and drove a 2014 F150 5.0 and a 2014 F150 EcoBoost. He liked the EcoBoost.

Also I noticed both those trucks seem to have a similar vibration at idle like my truck does, but there's more subtle and doesn't come in waves or surge like my truck does. Its just a steady constant vibe. Which to be honest is way less annoying than when the vibrations come and go and increase/decrease in intensity.

The dreaded reply no one wants to hear...."operating normally". Sorry man, it sucks to have a new truck and have issues with it.

I have a good friend with an early FX4 EcoBoost and it has been a really good truck for him. It pulls his 7 X 12 enclosed trailer really nice with no drama. The only thing I can knock the Ford for is the interior fit and finish. To me it is a distant 4th place behind GM, Ram and Toyota. The redesigned F150 looks to solve that issue though.

I actually had a 2011 f150 with a 5.0. Got rid of it because it was even worse on gas than my 2002 5.3 Silverado!

I agree, the Fords interior is a bit....dated. But still the loaded up lariats we drove last night were still pretty luxurious inside. and the MMI system is decent.

I apologize. It was not my intention to say you were offending anyone. I was just expressing my opinion, which sometimes comes on much too strong. Again, I am sorry.

Yes sir. They have their own problems they are dealing with right now. I check out the forums with Ford, Dodge, GM, Toyota, and Nissan as I will be getting me a truck again within the next 2 years assuming I don't go back into the hospital and have $$$$ worth of medical debt to pay off again. Based upon all that I have read, I feel quite content in going back to a GMT-900 1/2 or 3/4 ton. My 08 2500 D-Max had very few issues. The 07 1500 Sierra I had prior to that only had one major issue and that being some electrical gremlin that never got resolved.. Prior to that I had a 05 Sierra 1500 (used) that was a good solid truck except for some minor rust issues, and then I had my first truck which was a 99 Silverado 1500 that had just minor issues as well. Would I buy a new GM truck seeing all the issues that are going on? Only if it were a 2500/3500 Duramax. I'll avoid the 1/2 tons until the issues with this shake n Vib crap gets worked out for good. Fords are too ugly for me.. otherwise I might consider one. I'm waiting another few years with regards to the Dodge trucks to see if their reliability improves now that Fiat owns Chrysler. Otherwise if the reliability issues that have plagued Chrysler for 40+ years were not an issue, I'd likely buy a new Ram 1/2 ton. it's a great looking truck. Titans are too ugly and get horrible fuel economy. They are nice on the inside though. Tundras.. They look a lot better now.. but interrior comfort is subpar and the fuel economy still sucks. My 99 1500 5.3L got better fuel economy then what the current Tundra gets. Also, some of the issues being posted about over on the Tundra forums are almost as scary as the issues we are seeing with the 2014's on here. Go take a look. I was not aware that Consumers Reports pavement queen (Tundra) was having problems, I will do some reading as you suggest.

I thought this was a GM discussion site? Please take you talk of Ford, Nissan, and Toyota else were. I have had other brands of trucks but I really love my 2012 GMC 2500 HD. It runs smooth at idle and pulls like a mule. What I want to know is how Newm 2014 Denali is doing.

I have only put 250 miles on it since picking it up but so far so good. In all honesty it runs just like the day I bought it. Fuel mileage seems in check...everything seems good....knock on wood. As jacked up and as drawn out as this whole ordeal was I really do like this truck. It has a couple issues but I do know everything does and I can accept that. Now I just need to get these junk GY tires off of it and I will be 100% happy with my ride.

Thanks for asking...

My dealers favorite response "couldn't duplicate the problem".

Oh well...It's going to look great when I drive this S.O.B. downtown and park it in the lobby of the Ren Cen!

Newm,

Glad to hear all is well with the truck. Let us know how it is running after another 5K miles or so.
