How do I get my Pandora Radio to work on my 2014 Silverado? It says it's not connected to wifi . But how do I connect it to wifi?

In order to use the app in your truck, you need to have the app on your phone and it hooked up through a usb port. You can always have it play through bluetooth by selecting bluetooth on your radio and play it on your phone...

Just tested mine. Even with bluetooth you have to have the cable AND bluetooth. As soon as you move the cable pandora stops.

I hear other phones may not require the wired connection, but.. whatever.

Unless it's different on iphone vs android, the whole point of the car app is so you don't have to touch the phone to use the phone app. Make sure your phone is paired (bluetooth) the first time and it should connect automatically everytime you turn on the car. When you touch the Pandora icon on the vehicle touchscreen it should boot the Pandora app on the phone, at which point you can control everything about the phone app with MyLink. Your stations should be available and you can add them to your favorites in the car. Using the phone to do regular streaming like you would with tracks saved on your phone or other apps kind of defeats the purpose of having the car app.

It does all that. You just have to have the phone wire connected if you have an Iphone. It works like XM, rotate the menu knob to bring up your station list, hit menu to select. It has thumbs up/down/play/pause and next buttons on the screen, as well as album art and song/station details.

Yea, kind of a bummer. I like to have my phone on my windshield mount cos I use it for GPS (I'd use it even if I had factory nav cos siri can find things much easier.) The cable reaches, and I can use nav while using pandora, but its ugly having wires everywhere.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. But I have never used Pandora. Does it use your phone minutes if you don't have unlimited data plan? I'm still a cave man when it comes to some of this stuff. Any tips will be a big help.

It uses data, totally separate from your minutes.

 

Most phones with data at all have 5-10GB a month. I'm grandfathered with an unlimited data plan but I pay $120 a month for my phone. (work re-imburses $50 of it though cos its 99% work, 1% pleasure.)

 

Pandora is "the music genome project." I found it somewhere around 2007/8 and fell in love with it. I actually pay for it. If you travel around and have unlimited data (hell, even if you dont) you can pay $36 a year and stream music all day long with no ads. Basically you can't tell it what song you want to play, you tell it what kind of music you like, then tell it what you do or don't like until its trained and plays songs that you like, a custom "radio" if you will.

 

My mother can never understand that you can't dial itup and play a song you want, just a type of music or genre. She hasn't liked it because of this, but I use it religiously. In fact I'm listening to bluegrass right now on it.

 

I pay every year at christmas time heh.

 

I realized some time ago that since I don't have cable TV, that I listen to music all day long. on the ride into work, at work, on the ride home, and then when I'm at home until bed. It's worth it to me.

 

I have XM too, less hassle and its like $14 a month.

It does use your phone data, however I can say in personal experience not very much at all. I use mine 8 hours a day 5 days a week at work and it is very minimal, even at my usage I would guess it would use less than a gig a month. I love pandora, works very well.

I only recently started using Pandora again when I got the truck, before I had always paid for Mog or Rhapsody, etc. just so I could listen and download to what I wanted at the time. for what Pandora is, it's pretty good, and having the car app is nice. I definitely think it's better than XM personally, catch is when you don't have a cell signal. For free though it's pretty great and I would say it sounds better than most of the other sources in our trucks. (I have the Bose system.)

 

You can set the audio quality in the settings, but since it's getting compressed, if you are using bluetooth, then the higher setting may not be worth it for the car. Being plugged in might be an advantage there, haven't tried it. The basic quality uses a very low bitrate so it shouldn't kill your data much. (I'm a bit of a earbud junky so I tend to seek out higher quality sources if I can.) I think Pandora mobile is something around 64kbps or less, a high quality stream is probably anything over 192. Mog was 320. (damn you Beats for killing it!)

 

If you happen to have T-mobile, you can stream as much as you want and it will not count toward your data limits. their new music freedom thing. I have unlimited too but was reading about that the other day.
