Morimoto Sierra Spec HID

Recommended Posts

Are any of you guys with an SLE ordering extra bulbs to keep on hand? I ask because with the DRL ALWAYS on I'm not to sure of the longevity of the bulb.

Please excuse my ignorance here, this is my first rodeo with HID's

The HIDs will still last you a long time, just not quite as long as those of us with SLTs that don't use the headlight as the DRL.

I personally wouldn't worry much as far as longevity. An HID will last longer than the halogen you originally had in there anyway. I would only keep an extra bulb or 2 on hand just incase if one has a defect and goes out. If it lives up to its expected life then it'll be a while before you change out your lights

Did your SLE come with DRL's? Mine didn't, don't these HID's come on and as if the Halogens were in there, using the light sensor on auto?

I have had the Retrofit source HID in my sierra since new in June. At the time I bought my HID they didn't have a packaged kit but I have all the same parts as the Sierra kit. Everything was fine until a month ago when I had one headlight stay on after everything was shut off. No parking light on just one headlight. it ended up being the Cude relay on the harness which they replaced then the same issue was back a month later. The had me switch the relays to the other side to be sure it was the relay. Couple days later the other headlight stayed on a couple times after shutting it off. They sent another Relay which I need to put in but now today my truck was remote started and when I unlocked it only one headlight came on. I had to turn them off a couple times to get both to fire.

I was so happy with the HIDs for the first 5-6 months. I was relieved I didn't have all the common retrofit issues. I guess I was wrong. I really do not want to go back to stock headlights but its a pain in the ass having to go back and forth replacing things.

I have no idea why the one headlight wouldn't come on when it was ok for 6 months. Could the ballast be bad now?

Payton if you still have the relays that you removed and are willing open them up and inspect them. If you see and obvious wear post some pictures. There is a chance that the relays are going bad an can be upgraded to better ones for just a few dollars. The solid state ones would be way more expensive, so not sure everyone wants to do that. However if they are causing ballast to go bad I'm sure most people would rather spend a few bucks or more now for reliability. I can get Hella Relays for about $5 or $6 without the mounting tab. I'll try and look at how they will fit the harness from TRS next chance I have.

If it didn't cause any heat-related, electrical-related, or any related damage, why would it void any warranty? Now, trying to claim warranty on the aftermarket bulb to GM, that would be a different story.

Do any of you think this kit will wreck the warranty on the truck? I mean for some of the electrical?

This is from camaro5.com:

Will This Modification Void My Warranty?
This is a question that is asked often and is a major concern for many people as they start down the road of modifying their vehicle. Search the web and you will find plenty of answers from internet “experts”, but as usual most of them totally incorrect. So, what is the correct answer?

Despite all the bad information out there, it is pretty cut and dry because there is federal law on the matter. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302©) regulates warranties and protects the consumer. This legislation was enacted in 1975 in response to widespread deceptive warranty practices in many industries. Here is how SEMA summarizes things:

The essence of the law concerning aftermarket auto parts is that a vehicle manufacturer may not condition a written or implied warranty on the consumers using parts or services which are identified by brand, trade, or corporate name (such as the vehicle maker's brand) unless the parts or service are provided free of charge.
The law means that the use of an aftermarket part alone is not cause for denying the warranty.
However, the law's protection does not extend to aftermarket parts in situations where such parts actually caused the damage being claimed under the warranty. Further, consumers are advised to be aware of any specific terms or conditions stated in the warranty which may result in its being voided. The law states in relevant part: No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumers using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name... (15 U.S.C. 2302©).

So in short, this means a service department or automotive manufacturer can not void your warranty simply because you have installed aftermarket parts or have modified your vehicle. They can, however, deny a warranty claim if they can prove the issue in question was a direct result of the installed part or modification. Unfortunately, plenty of people have stories of going to a dealership service department with a warranty issue and being denied because they have modified their vehicle. There are definitely shady service departments out there who will try to get over on their customers if they can, but this is illegal and it is up to the customer to know the law and stand up.

Here is an example of what can not be denied:

You install a supercharger in your vehicle and a month later your drivers side window stops working. The supercharger has no impact on your electric window motor, therefore, the repair should be covered.

Here is and example of what could be denied:

You install a supercharger in your vehicle and a month later your clutch is toast. The additional power created by a supercharger can easily overpower a stock clutch and lead to the repair not being covered under warranty.

I ordered my TRS 3five 5k kit a while back with the black Friday sale which was a huge discount, but it's been to cold around here lately to install them. Can't wait to get them in when it warms up a bit or I have a warm garage to work in.

will be replacing the relay this weekend and will try to open the bad one. Now Im more frustrated because the last 3 days my left headlight flashes and goes out when turning lights on. Im guess a bad ballast or bulb? Going to switch the ballast sides to see if the other light fails to turn on.

Im starting to wonder rid I will need to go to halogens again. The HIDs where flawless for 6 months now the typical aftermarket HID issues. I am wondering who sells actual OE Ballasts. Marmot is supposed to be a high quality kit but I am having my doubts.
