6.2 8 speed

i am torn between ordering my new truck with the 5.3 max tow or the 6.2...dealer says a 5.3 is a 6 speed and the 6.2 is an 8 speed...my wife has a durango with an 8 speed and can annoy me sometimes the quick shifting...

i am towing a fully loaded 7,300 lb trailer...my question is those who have the 8 speed, does it shift a lot? do you like it?

i am pretty sure everyone is going to tell me to get the 6.2 8 speed max tow over the 5.3 max tow...but hope to get some real answers.

I'm pulling 10500 with my 05, and it pulls OK, I imagine the newer tranny and 5.3 are quite a but better then what I'm doing, I'm all about getting that 6.2 for my next truck but the reality is I feel the 5.3 has plenty of muscle, why not get a leftover 6.2/6 speed?

I have a 14 sierra 6.2 w a 6speed tranny. My wife has a new 15 Yukon with the 6.2 8 speed tranny. Today my dealer delivered a new 15 Silverado w the 5.3 3.42 to replace an older 5.3 in my fleet. I bought it for one of my divisions That tow a 6800 lb trailer almost daily. I have 3 trucks in that division 2 F150's w the 5.0, 3.73's and they get decent mpg for what they do. And 1 Tundra ( which we are moving out to another div.) And it sucks fuel, just with the trailer sitting on it. This 5.3 will replace the Tundra in the dept. I drove it today to run errands, nice get up and decent torque. No towing yet... I know this is long but to wrap it up, if it was me driving, and me towing, I would take the 6.2 w 8speed all the way. Now these being WK trucks, I don't have the option to get a 6.2 in the WK truck package. And my guys don't take care of jack.

My 6.2 8 speed likes to change gears often but t shifts very smoothly and def will downshift fast to grab a gear to get up and go when you mash the gas. once it is broken in a little you will notice the power and the gas millage increase

after 1400 miles average around 15.5 MPG best mpg i got was 27

only thing i will say when the tranny and engine is cold the first to second and second to first gear change is a little rough but nothing to fuss over and overall for a new transmission it is nice. def shifts a lot nicer and smoother than the 6 in my opinion and i had both the 2014 and the 2015 sierra 6.2

Hope this helps you any questions feel free to ask

Hmmm, with these numbers, it makes a decision harder. Except the 6.2 is the only one with 8 speed, right? That 6.2 is mighty nice!

Correct. So far, only the 6.2 has the 8 speed.

Only have a 100 miles or so on mine, but so far I'm impressed.

Because you will not find one anyware!!! That is the only reasoni am riding out all the problems they have with the 14s instead of going lemon law. The 6.2 with the 6 speed is an assumed combo!! But I would never trust that 8 speed in its 1st year because I had the 6 in its first year and it cost me $ and was quite annoying to drive

Was your previous ride a 6sp/5.3?

    • Got the truck back today.  Called them yesterday to get an update, and miraculously my truck is finished?!?! The $13k out the door was complete bullshit!  Ended up being over $14k.  They added some bullshit service bulletin that I cant even find, where they replaced my radiator without telling me or asking me, and charging me for it.  Need to do more research into it, cause they leaked the first delivered radiator was ran over by FedEX.  Sounds like bullshit to me. 2.5 Months for an engine swap, which ended up being remanufactured, not new; ****ing ridiculous.  Brakes are squishy as hell, not sure if its from sitting.  Will give a couple days to see it that figures it self out.  GAVE IT BACK TO ME WITH 1 GALLON OF GAS!  Just filled the tank the day before drop off, more bullshit.  My dash cam SD card was formatted, not really much I can do about that. 3 year, 100k GM warranty at least.  Time to sell it and say **** off to GM.  Bad experience.  Cant wait for the survey email to come through.  Overpriced Raptor R, here I come!
    • If I forget the phone in the truck, and forget the truck in the phone, and reconnect.  It works great for the day.  Truck sits overnight, and the next day is a no go.  It will connect Android Auto via usb cable, but not bluetooth.   Ive tried Everything in this thread so far, and nothing works for more than a day.   I think I might have to go to the dealer and have them flash the pcm.   thanks for all the suggestions guys. 👍
    • 2022 2500HD Crew Z71 Duramax single alternator.  Recently had the primary (water pump / fan) belt tensioner pulley bearing to fail while hundreds of miles from home of course the plastic pulley melted and belt shredded which took out some wiring. Found a replacement tensioner assembly and belt to continue now would like to find a replacement for just the pulley and bearing to have a spare assembly in case of a repeat, the rest of the tensioner is fine. Has anybody here found a correct replacement part for just the pulley and bearing? Any help is appreciated.
    • +1 for the 3.0   Perfect for 1500 pickup towing duties.   Perfect engine for a 1500 pickup period. Huge torque at stunningly low RPM makes it feel a lot lighter than it is. The fuel mileage is insane for a tall and heavy 1500... 30+ on the highway. Mid 20's around town.   It's probably not perfect if you bought a 6.2 for the braaaaaaapppppp V8 noises and wrapping it out to 6k. The LZ0 acts and sounds like a small turbo diesel and there's nothing you can do to make a small turbo diesel sound like a big one, and you can't make an inline diesel sound like a V8 diesel/big Duramax. It's a different driving experience altogether.   Drive one, I think you'll like it, though...
    • I'll bet your truck lost the bearings on a roller on 1 of the lifters, and now is wiping out a cam lobe.
